I just built a P45 system:
E5200 @ 3.43 ghz.

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P mb

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1100 (PC2 8800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI - Retail

ASUS EAH4870 DK/HTDI/1GD5 Radeon HD 4870 Dark Knight 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail

WD 36.7 gig Rator

Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - OEM

My dilemma is will 7 Professional w/xp mode that requires a combined 35gb hd space fit on my Raptor?
I'll use my partitioned 500gb drive for everything else.
I also plan on doubling the ram and maybe another Dark Knight :).

Opinions?

Tia ;)

Is it the 1st gen 36GB raptor? Cause if thats the case it will be quite slow compared to the WD black drive. I'd just partition the caviar drive into something like 50GB os/ rest.

1st gen raptors are the WD360GD/WD740GD models. Second gen have the ADFD at the end of the code and would be worth keeping as an OS boot drive.

Sorry I don't really know about the space requirements or XP mode. But can u set the XP mode drive to be on a different HDD, like you can in other VM tools? 36GB would be enought for Win7 alone. You can also move the library folders to the second HDD.

It's second gen. but it's going to be close on space. I agree to unistall the raptor and partition the black caviar. fifty gig for the o/s , 200 gig for games, 200+ for music, movies, pics, etc.

Thanks for the advice. ;)

i have mine fully loaded with all my programs and xp mode, swap file, hibernation file etc and am at 29 gigs...so it would be tight and hard to maintain. But you could do custom installs of the programs and move them to the other larger drive.

Doesn't matter anyways the e5200 doesn't have VT :)

It might fit, if you don't install anything. My Win7 partition is using up 38.2GB of my alloted 195GB right now.
