Russ, one of the risks of saving up blocks, is the chance that they will be re-sent from the key servers.

Don't blame Loss with replacement. Dumping has it's risks.

As for us missing blocks. It's been explained OVER AND OVER that D.net is backed up. They are working on new servers, and if this is a problem, I'm sure S@H would love your help. Then when RC5 is "fixed" you can come back. If you feel so angry towards the project this might be the solution.

illkid,

They have not yet been credited. We can only hope that they all actually make it through this time once Dnet cleans up their mess.

<<....That backlog was a result of the co-lo where the keymaster is hosted having bandwidth problems, and thus preventing the proxies from being able to flush their blocks...>>

And why didn't they expect this to happen and take care of it before it started to become a problem? Failure to plan ahead is what I see from this comment. This should of all been on the table starting day one, (ie.. " As we expect to have more members using the clients, (increasing the network traffic) we should schedule the installation of more bandwidth consecutively..." )

Not by installing it at the last minute!!

Sounds like a very poor excuse, if this is the root cause to the problems we have been experiencing. I understand things can happen that are out the the "normal" control of most individuals, companies, etc.. but I don't think this qualifies.

LANMAN, we may be misunderstanding each other a bit, so let me clarify what I meant. As far as I know, the bandwidth issues that that the provider experienced were not the, "Oops, we maxed out our bandwidth. Too bad we didn't plan ahead and buy more sooner," kind of problems. They were actual connectivity issues like, "Looks like a router went down upstream and it's affecting us. I wonder how long it is going to take BBN Planet (or whoever) to fix that." Also, the mandatory power outages in California may be playing a part as well, as I mentioned in my previous post. I don't really think it was poor planning on distributed.net's part or even the provider's. It's just one of those unfortunate things that happen now and then. Again, let me emphasize that I don't know this all for a fact. It is simply what I understood based on Moose's post.

Speaking from personal experience, I used to work at an ISP in Northern Arizona. One time our connection died. It was quite a mess, with all the distraught customers calling in while we were on the phone trying to find out what happened. Anyways, it turned out that the provider (Tier 2, I believe) from whom we purchased bandwidth was having serious issues. In that situation we couldn't really do anything but wait. The problem was out of our control and not our fault, but it affected us profoundly. Admitedly, this was a small town ISP, so the analogy is not perfect, but I think distributed.net has pretty much been in the same boat recently as we were back then.

I hope the missing blocks show up. The Seti Cavalry is missing 15,140 blocks for yesterday which is really frustrating considering we're taking away from our seti efforts to try & help in the Rc5 battle only to have our blocks disappear.:(

The seti servers do go down alot but that's what caching programs are for. One thing I can say for seti is I've never seen them lose a wu after it's been turned in.:)

Technically, you can; though Dnet typically shuns the idea.:Q

Thanks for the clarification Gib. I can see your point now. ( " I hate it when that happens." )

TA Cube up one to #34!! 200,000 wu's done!

Nice job everyone.
