So i have failed at waiting for next gen, was going to wait to sidegrade from coil whining 4890 to 460 but decided to go for it now.

Here is my question, i plan to OC the hell out of it, like absolute MAX OC.

Should i buy a factory clocked card, or a OC edition card. I would assume that the companies are binning the better chips for the OC cards so in theory the OC Edition would be better right?

For those 460 owners that OC can you post your OC's and if you have a factory clocked card or a OC edition.

And before someone tells me the 768MB cards are crippled i know this and will be going 1GB, also will be going for a brand that works with that MSI voltage tool.

Thanks guys.

I've heard rumors that the gpu vendors "bin" their factory oc cards, but I've never had any proof of it. I guess that it would make sense that a card with poor oc-ability would be binned, but the gtx 460 oc's so well that they probably didn't even bother (even assuming that video card companies bin them in the first place). I'd just get a card that you know works with afterburner (preferably evga if they do) and go to town.

I would look for the coolest running but i think alot of factory cards just have crap tim(way to much and low quality). On all my cards i usually remove the factory heatsink apply a thin layer of quality tim and lap the heatsink and GPU surface. This has almost always gained me at least 5-10c lower under stress temps.

So as you can imagine factory heat levels dont mean much to me.

Well it says in this review the msi Cyclone gtx 460 1gb never reaches over 70c under load with the core at 885 and extra voltage.
Quote:
"Check it out, it is an insane overclock alright, and that shows in performance increases. Even with added GPU voltage our core temperature remained under 70 degrees C under load."

Add some more voltage with the tweaked bios I linked you and you easily get 900 core with respectable temps.

I know, i just ordered it from ncix though, 2 left in stock and at my local branch too. I will pickup tuesday or wednesday and post back with OC results i promise. Im going all out voltage and all, might even get aftermarket cooler when they come out, we will see how it goes after i lap the stock one.
