Anone got the NF7-S Rev 1.2 yet?

The Audigy uses from .25% to 1.25% (the Audigy2 even less) on Winbench @ 1GHz Square while the Nvidia, although the lowest of onboard sound can still hit above 5%. If you hit Google you could prolly find some charts...

bgeh's graphs reveal 0.75 to 3.21 cpu utilization. And 3.21 only with DirectSound 3D and 32 voices. And the results don't increase exponentially as the amount of voices increase. And yeah, I agree, it would in fact be better to listen to the differences between the nvidia audio and the audigy and from that make a decision.

Hey guys I just wanted to give you an update. Ferarri, I decided on the Abit. I ordered it from GameVE a couple of days ago and don't regret the decision at all. While I'm not sure I'll use SATA or the s/pdif or whatever else extra comes with the Abit over the Epox, I do know that I'd rather pay an extra $20 now and not have to worry about it.

Oh and to whoever was listing their system specs... I ordered the same things that you just listed except that instead of paying that much for the Corsair I went with 1x512meg chip of Kingston HyperX PC3000. Yes, I know that means I will not be utilizing the dual ddr function, however I intend to order another 512 meg chip next month. I'm upgrading from a 700mhz machine so I really doubt being without dual ddr will be a concern of mine for a month Plus, I always like buying little pieces of my computer about a month or two after the bulk is initially ordered because it almost makes the 'newness' last longer. Nothing wrong with a little mental trickery eh?

Hey Fingolfin269, I just ordered the Abit NF7-S from gameve.com also. It's only going to cost $13 dollars more than the 8RDA+, and like you said, it does have all those extra features. I'm also getting one stick of 512mb HyperX PC3000 memory like you so hopefully we both will be able to oc near or over 200fsb. Good luck and by the way, let me know how well it goes.

I'm still really undecided on the hsf so I haven't ordered yet.

is the slk-800a easy to install just like any other hsf? Or is it a pain in the ass......

And also If it's easy whats a good (medium, but not to loud) fan to get for it?

Hi jstaggs. I went with the Thermalright SK-7 and Panaflo L1A 80mm fan. If you want the absolute best cooler, go with the slk-800a (I don't think it's that hard to install, check the reviews). If you want nearly-as-good cooling then go with the sk-7, it's a lot cheaper (by about $15 - almost double). For the fan I'd buy the L1A, it puts out 24cfm at 21dB and is one of the quietest available. If you want more than 24cfm, get the YS-TECH 80x25mm variable speed fan; however, the Panaflo should be more than adequate, even for overclocking. All this stuff is available at svc.com except they are out of the panaflos.

I got the SLK-800(A) and TR Smart Fan 2 w/ "cool mod". I've got a blue Chieftec case with a window so hell yes I want glowing in there! Fire would be neat too... okay well maybe the "cool" red glow from the fan will work as the fire for now.

Quick question within this thread for you OC madmen... Assuming that I'm using the above HSF and I also have 4 other fans going in the system, can I assume that I will have no problems hitting at least 166x13? I've never tried to overclock and will be looking for help along the way but just thought I'd ask this simple question up front.

Has anyone verified if a Alpha PAL-8045 will fit on this (the 1.2 which does have holes) MB? I've been using mine for over a year a love the thing. None of the test's show any appreiciable gain to using one of the newer coolers either. (specially since I lapped mine to a 2000+ grit Mirror finish..)

I'd really like to pick up one of these soon..along with faster DDR and a TBred2100....

Remember, folks, if with the Abit board you use two sticks of RAM, put them in the two slots furthest from the CPU. Info gleaned from the Abit sponsored forums on its site. I forget why, but I made a mental note of the information.

I, too, am wrestling with the 8RDA vs the rev 1.2 Abit and leaning toward the latter, though if I have problems it may take time and reading to solve them.

Someone earlier said the bios recovery kit was $10. That's not what I found, so if anyone knows, where is that kit only $10?

For all nforce2 boards, if you have two memory modules, put one memory module in the memory slot that seems to stand alone and the other in either of the two remaining slots for Dual DDR.

ExcaliberPC offers a combo deal where the BIOS survival kit ends up costing $8 extra.

im looking to get it...but im not sure
i havnt had any trouble with my a7n8x (but i need another mobo) and was thinking about this one....
usually waht i do, is save the changes (after making only a cojple at a time) and then choose exit and save
someitmes it lags for a second or two, but it restarts and then i go back and make any ohter changes, following the same process to get out of the bios

it seems to have worked as i've managed to go too far a number of times, and i just needed to clear cmos and im set

really? when searching the forum, it seems like the majority of folks out there say to be sure to get 1.2 (not sure how new 2.0 is, but most threads are in march)
