Annualized S&P 500 return...

Inflation adjusted and with dividends reinvested:

Bush 8 years 2001 thru 2008

-5.2% per year
---------
Obama 2 years 2009 thru 2010

+18.0% per year

---------

The middle class took a severe beating under Bush and is still in anguish. It will be a long road to recovery but hopefully the healing has begun.

Now calculate it WITHOUT the bush tax cuts that saved the middle class out of the picture since you're including dividend reinvestment.

Source? Because while the past 2 years have certainly been nice, those figures for 2001 to 2008 just don't look right.

EDIT: Ok I looked up some stats, and we need to look at what was going on in the market at these times. 01-02 dot com bubble crashed so we had -11% and -22% for those years. 2003 soared back up at 28%. 2004 was average at almost 11%. 2005 was weird at just under 5%. 2006 above average 16%. 2007 a low 5%. 2008 the market plummeted again at -37%.

Naturally, when markets plummet they almost always come soaring back. Bush ended on a valley. Obama just caught the ride back up. This has nothing to do with policy (in fact, a president's first 2 years usually give a bad market).

I support Obama, and I hated Bush, but I really hate when people make shit up.

Oh, so you're one of those people who actually believes that the President is the sole factor determining our economic state. Yeah, go take ECON 101 and get back to us please.

Tax policy and interest rate policy are the two biggest contributors to the length of an economic cycle. It's mostly luck of the draw what part of the economic cycle any president at the time gets to ride.

...and exactly what conclusion are we to draw from this?
The conclusion is that having a somewhat good economy under Bush is bad for stocks and that's why the corporate jew bankers cause recessions so they can get their mad high percentage returns on stocks!!!!

Obama having 18% per year means he took office when the market was at its lowest and it's now starting to recover. Bush's number is negative because it crashed just as he was leaving.

All this demonstrates is that one can cherry pick numbers to fit ones views.

Jesus Christ, can't you even do simple math? It means that Obama is 23.2 percent better than Bush.

23.2% percent of what?
You realize that is something goes down say 50% then it has to go up 100% to break even.

The S&P was at ~1,300 when the GOP took over capital hill in 2001. When the GOP lost control of capital hill in 2007 it was ~1,450. It is now ~1,300.

So when the GOP controlled capital hill, the S&P went up ~10% while when the Democrats took control it dropped 10%.

Ah, the Jewish Bankers. Where have I heard that before?

Israel? I hear that place has many bankers who happen to be Jewish.
So Israel is the one who did this eh? :hmm:

You made a thread about stock prices and you're saying this is middle class being attacked? The middle class relies on having a job to put food on the table, and currently that is sucking ass under Obama. Living on stocks is what Bill Gates does.

Since 1945:

Average Stock Market gain during Democratic Congress: +9.8%
Average Stock Market gain during Republican Congress: +30.1%

Average Stock Market gain during Democratic President:
with Democratic Congress support: +13.2%
with Republican Congress opposition: +32.6%

Average Stock Market gain during Republican President:
With Democratic Congress opposition: +6.6%
With Republican Congress support: +25.3%

Two can play your game.

lol

Obama still has 2 years left (at least) so give it some time. 18% gains 2 years in a row is a rocket ride and it is all based on piss poor fundamentals. Even worse is the insane ramp in raw materials that will force a ton of companies to increase prices (hard to do with the current economy/unemployment), reduce profits or some combination.

If you are still in the market at this point in time you will get no sympathy from me when the rug gets pulled out.

More proof he is the Messiah but where will jobs come from to heal the middle class?

Didn't stop your ass from agreeing with your hero Bush when he kept saying "the economy is strong" when he was destroying it.

Hmmmm let's see

Your hero cuts taxes for the rich = Economic disaster

The Messiah hits the rich and Corporate welfare whores = Economic recovery

Yep total luck 🙄
