Annoying IE bug...

wyvrn

Lifer
I am using IE v. 5.00.2 that came with Win98. After using it for a while, the back button will grey out and not work. Even though I should be able to back about 100 times. This is annoying when I do not want to go to the front page of the website I am at again and wade through to the page I was last on. Anyone know of a fix for this ah heck?

Well I could do that but this is on a work machine and upgrading is a no-no. Anyone know of a fix (hack) for it?

TIA!

Learn to use some of the shortcut keys. They have always worked for me.

I turn the buttons off for IE and Opera.

Couple ideas...

Try going to Run/Type msinfo32..Go to Tools and try IE Repair Tool

Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files/Settings/.....Check "Automatically" and make sure the amount of disk space to use isn't set to one MB for ex....try 100MB and in the Advanced Tab you can clean out the cache every time you shutdown IE by checking the box that says "Empty Internet Files Folder When Browser Is Closed"

Thanks CRV. I did everything but Try going to Run/Type msinfo32..Go to Tools and try IE Repair Tool..

When I go to msinfo32/tools these are my options ...

Windows Report Tool
Update Wizard Uninstall
System File Checker
System Verification Tool
Registry Checker

Automatic Skip Driver Agent
Dr Watson
System Config Utility
Scandisk
Version Conflict Manager

I have already done the Scandisk, defrag, System file checker route without luck. Through a search of hard drive I found inbox repair tool, but nothing about an IE repair tool. Could not find it in help menu either.

Oh well I can live with it.

no no no it's not a repair thing. It's one of those bugs that is built-in to that version. One of the things you can do is goto windowsupdate and do some updates. "upgrading is a no-no. Anyone know of a fix (hack) for it?" LOL you can't do an upgrade but your ready to do a hack for it. Oh well it's your decision.

Software upgrades are monitored, but a registry hack for instance, would not be. Not my policy, just what I have to deal with.
