Hi guys, yet another post from me this week.

One of my media PC's makes a really annoying whine after going into sleep mode. The noise continues till I turn the computer off and on. It's around 1800hz so if I wait 10-20 years the problem may fix itself! I was wondering if their is anything I might be able to do without buying a new PSU. I'm guessing its something to do with the PSU not being down for the low power consumption that the sleep modes requires, I used to leave it on most of the day but that seems like a massive waste of power. Any suggestions are welcome.

One thing that would concern me is that VS450 power supply uses fairly low quality capacitors from CapXon. It sounds to me like coil whine or potentially a bad capacitor on the +5VSB circuit. I would pop the cover on the power supply and look for any bulging capacitors. Either way, I'd look at replacing your power supply, as it is most likely the culprit here. If it only happens when the computer is in sleep mode, it's probably a fail(ed)(ing) component on the 5VSB side of the power supply.
