This actually made me go "really?" the other day before considering the age of the user.

We received an email with a link to a survey. In this person's email, the link didn't auto format into a link, so they had to copy and paste it into their web browser.

So, I sit there and watch.
Step 1: Click and drag across the link text to highlight. Good so far.
Step 2: Go to Edit --> Copy. (Fine, I can deal with this.)
Step 3: Open up Internet Explorer
Step 4: No idea where to put the link.

I point to the address bar. They then proceed to try to go to Edit --> Paste (since that's how this person does all their copy/paste) instead of shortcuts and the option to paste isn't highlighted. Second round of freaking out at technology begins.

I then mention pressing ctrl+V at the same time, and I just wind up doing it since they'll never remember. Then I wait for them to press enter, and they stare at the computer expecting a miracle. I then say "press enter."

"Why is it so difficult?"

By the way, I'm not in IT.

-I hate it when people refer to the computer tower as a 'modem'
-installs every piece of software they can get their hands on and makes sure to let them all pre-load with windows startup so that it resides in the task bar.
-recently, people get new computers and worry me to death that there is no floppy drive and how they will not be able to survive without one.
-expect me to be able to tell them who gave them the virus'.

LOL

My favorite user question of all time (admittedly in a new web-based system we were testing): "Do I have to hit save to save the information?"

Login clickers used to bother me, but not anymore. I've realized that it's part of their procedure and trying to get them to change is just silly. Plus, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter.

I haven't seen too many full-time double-clickers lately, but I usually do tell them that stuff in the quick launch and in web pages only needs to be clicked once. Since it actually affects performance (and increases their frustration when they have 5 of the same window), I tell them.

What bugs me the most are the people who think they're computer savvy and like to click on stuff and change settings. Then when something breaks they yell at IT because it isn't working properly.. and of course, they don't tell us that they were tinkering.
These people are usually also the most adamant about NEVER restarting their computer. EVER. Even when they're having a problem and they can't work, they are against restarting. I don't get it.

OK i will give you that.

Don't get me started on gas pumps that have removed the ability to pump themselves. Of course, I stuff the handle with my wallet or gas cap anyway, but DAMN.

How about the ones that are supposed to have that ability... yet, fail to actually engage properly?
Move the handle to the locked position, 2 seconds later the pump stops. argghh. And holding it without engaging the lock? Same thing. You have to sit there and hold it with less pressure, thus requiring longer to fill the tank up.
Sitting there for 18 gallons with a slow pump? extremely irritating

Isin't it illegal to let it pump automaticly? That's why they're designed in a way to make it hard to shove something to hold it.

Why would there be the little notches in the handle to hold the level in a certain position if it were illegal?
This could be dependent upon location, of course.

But I was also referring to the fact that these same pumps, if that doesn't work, you cannot hold the level with strong force to get gas to pump fast, it just stops pumping.

It's not a "feature", rather a defect for some reason. Most pumps I can put lock the level and stand there until the tank is nearly full and it stops.

It could be the way the nozzle interacts with my dakota's gas tank, sensing it full when it's nearly empty if the gas is flowing in large volume. But only on occasion do I run into that problem.

It does that because the pump isn't detecting a good seal around between the pump and your tank. Shift the position a bit (up and in further) and try it again.

"I've downloaded every single piece of software I can get my hands on, visit various shifty websites a day, open every single piece of email I get, especially if it has attachments, and I love Bonzai buddy. I also have this antivirus program that is totally legit. Why is my computer running slow?"

I'm the same way, I also hate it when they click from username to password instead of using tab.

My dad right clicks an icon on the desktop then hits open, instead of simply double clicking.

Try developing a website for a retard who insists they should be able to type their username, hit enter, and then type in their password. Tab's not good enough.

Haha that must be a pain.

Worse thing is, the blame is always put on IT/the coder if the user is having trouble with the system. Often it's an education thing where the user needs proper training to use the system properly.

That's not too hard nowadays. But I'd want to leave enter at default behavior as "punishment" to idiot users. Fuck them.

This is the routine most users here at work do when logging into the computer.

Ctrl+Alt+Del
move mouse to click ok on our disclaimer popup
move mouse to click in user name box
enter user name
move mouse and click on password box
enter password
move mouse to click OK
