I believe I pin pointed it down to the fan that is on the motherboard.

I have an ASUS A7N266-e motherboard. What can I do to make the noise stop? The fan sounds like it's gonna die soon. Sometimes it sounds as if it stops then re-spins back up again. HELP!

How hot does the northbridge get? If it doesn't get very hot, I'd just unplug the fan, like what I did on my KT266A board.

I honestly don't know how hot it gets but I wouldn't want to risk damaging the computer.

Buy a heatsink preferably the Zalman (only about 3.99 plus shipping), makes no noise at all and is cool.

If other manufacturers have boards with your chipset with only a small northbridge heatsink, that's an indication that it's safe to unplug your fan. You could also ask around to find out whether your NB is considered a "hot" one or a "cool" one.

heh yea, most are just decoration.. noise making decoration. if you feel the need to replace it, just buy another fan aned glue it on or whatever. or simply improve your case ventilation
