Annoying Ad

The "Click here to Get $200 in Free Gasoline" ad is as annoying as hell. Any way you could get them to change their banner so it didn't blink so fast (or at all).

EDIT: Typo

yeah not only is it annoying, but any page that displays it, slows down my computer. I'm not kidding, the mouse pauses in specific intervals, and total CPU responce time slows down.

EDIT: I think this is only with Netscape communicator. I have v 4.7

with the pre release Netscape 6, I think it runs fine, however I can' post using it for some reason (beta version).

I agree. I can't stand looking at it..hurts my eyes..and I'm usually OK with almost any ads..but that one is just too annoying. It remindsme of the ads you see on your tv screen that have text scrolling in read, acting like it's a "thunderstorm warning" or something, but they say "Only $0.30 a day and you'll be covered for life" or something. I wish companies would realize that if people get really annoyed with an ad, they aren't going to click on it either. *sigh*

ARG! This is such a coincidence! I click on this thread to see what you all are talking about, and that Ad shows up on the top of my screen!!! I didn't even get to read your post before it started annoying me! I hate the ones that blink fast, but at least it's not those annoying Applet ones with sound.

It almost blinks with my refresh rate....😛

But in all seriousness, I kinda doubt that complaining about an ad will change anything - people have tried complaining about the "punch-the-monkey" javascript ads, and others, to no avail it seems.

Zuni - perhaps its time to create (or tell someone to create) a "Don't bother asking" FAQ? Some things tend to get asked an awful lot 🙂

Well I haven't seen a javascript ad on Anandtech, for a long time. And I they have taken some other annoying ones off.

I am not one for bitching about ads, but that one is just annoying (not as much as the java ones though).

LOL, but they do know! Have you seen the ad that rapidly flashes "click this to stop the blinking" (paraphrased). Good thing I was on a page that let me scroll down, so I didn't have to see the ad.

-🙁

The Casino-on-net throbbing ad TOP and BOTTOM (you cant get away from it) even in answer threads is a friggin pain in the arse.
Gambling ads on AT? Whats next, Pron?
Anything for a buck?

Yeah, sorry about that guys, it's annoying me just as much as everyone else. The way the advertising works on AnandTech is like this, basically I don't handle any of it (it's much easier that way) and I'm not aware of a banner going up until I pretty much see it on the page. I contacted our sales staff yesterday afternoon about it but apparently the banners had yet to be pulled. Rest assured that they will go down, we'll try our best to get them down ASAP because they are definitely unacceptable.

Take care,
Anand

dont fire them, there kinda useful at times, they lock repeat threads, for example the napster threads, all the paulson threads. if they got fired we would all go crazy!

Right on, DarkManX! Instead of being fired,
I suggest that our salaries should be cut in half.
Let's see, how much is half of zero...?
