Announcing the launch of STAT

I've been working on this: STAT

A few weeks back, when there was the earthquake in LA, I was ashamed that AnandTech beat CNN by 5-10 minutes. So now, I'm deleting my CNN news alerts and getting AnandTech alerts instead. You can too.

yeah easily. i was at a hospital using wi-fi when earthquake happened. somebody posted very soon after i felt the earthquake, cnn was way behind. the local news and anandtech reported it right about the same time.

i'll be sure to get it, then, we have been getting lots of earthquakes here in miami.

Just wait until the next hurricane slips under CNN's radar.

I'll check it out.

Questions:

Is it case sensitive?

Does it search both the thread title and the summary?

It isn't case sensitive, but only searches the title for now. Version 1 🙂

Trying to save mugs some time, I used his work email to sign up for alerts for threads that have "NSFW" in the title. 😉

Neat idea though.

Well, its trivial to make it better, since I'm already pulling the data. It has been suggested that I search the topic summary and the first sentence of the thread posting... Thoughts?

I can wait 10 minutes. It takes that long for me to hit refresh (in reality, I highlight the address and hit enter again) sometimes so I'm use to it🙂.

It isn't just for news alerts. It's also for getting emailed when a thread on a subject you're interested in is created. Say you're REALLY into Obama or McCain. Add Obama as a keyword and vuala - you'll get an email the second a thread is created with that in the title.
