I don't know if anyone's noticed this, but it's the followup to one of my favorite citybuilder games.

I love Dawn of Discovery, just overall a gorgeous and fun game, and this new futuristic direction looks very interesting.

My only gripe about Dawn of Discovery was the ridiculously long ass load time when you have a big sandbox city.

As a genre that does not get enough love, the anno series is one of the best.
 
I was just looking the other day to see when the next one would be.

Not sure how I feel about it being set in the future. I think I would have prefered a modern day one, but if it's as good as 1404 I'll be happy.

I personally don't really like games that are just a sandbox. As for the previous version, not sure how successful it was as you can buy the entire package dirt cheap now.

How to be successful enough for it to have an expansion and they are making another sequel for the series. Also you can pick up plenty of games for dirt cheap now, doesn't mean they weren't successful.
 
I've heard nothing but great things about Anno 1404/Dawn of Discovery. Didn't realize until now they had just released a new one. I need to play these eventually.

You'll enjoy it if you are not in the mood for too deep of a game. I find it's rather relaxing to build a pretty city and watch it flourish, the soundtrack is pretty good also. There's also a campaign mode besides sandbox scenarios with about 10 missions that are pretty fun also.
 
Oh wow, looks pretty good. I liked the Anno games since I first played one a long time ago. I can't even remember what it was, but I enjoyed the pace and it was something I could just relax in.
 
Never played any Anno. Any similarity with SimCity? Because I would love another SimCity-ish, or something deeper.

EDIT: Oh wait, I played Dawn of Discovery. Which was pretty cool. Do all Anno games have "enemies" on the map with you?

It's like 3 years old now isn't it? Bad Company 2 could be had for $9 and it's barely a year old 🙂 Beside Anno is huge in Europe.

Quite a huge jump in eras, holly cow! I hope it has more depth to it, the Anno games get pretty repetitive quickly on me.
 
Awesome! Campaign modes were a lot of fun - never tried the sandbox mode though.

Meh - it's ubisoft - let's hope it's not going to have the same lame DRM that their recent titles have [or had].
 
And another game released under the Anno franchise.
They were all good just hope this one will keep up with the standard
 
I liked 1404, although it did become dull after a while. This does seem to be a drastic departure from the previous time periods.
 
In all honesty, if you've played one Anno game, you've played them all, which I personally don't mind, because the gameplay mechanics is good and original enough to be worth repeating, instead of trying something new (which, in game developing terms means "copy gameplay elements from another successful game and subsequently cock it up moron style)

So, it kind of depends - if you're like me, the kind of guy who buys and plays an entire franchise because the game that introduced you to said franchise was good, then you might as well start with the first, anno 1602.

Otherwise start with the best (anno 1404 + the Venice expansion, in my opinion)

No idea why it isn't purchasable on Steam atm. Your best bet might be direct 2 drive, they have the gold edition for $30 and you can use the coupon BUNNY to save 25% off that. So comes out to like $22.50, not bad imo.
