Not a bad find, however, I prefer the Leadtek Winfast GEForce2 GTS board, which has an oversized heatsink and should allow you to overclock the on board memory to around 405mhz, yielding higher results. Check it out here for $193 and free shipping is included for limited time on all Leadtek cards.

By the way Felonious, nice choice of components on your system, my setup is very similar, but intel.

boboTmonkey,

buy.com does not have any 30 dollar coupons for returning customers only new customers, so 210-15 = 195 + shipping. The reason I pointed out the leadtek card was the fact you can overclock it so high because of the large factory heatsink, and also it runs faster than most other gts cards by a frame or 2 according to the reviews on all the major hardware sites. The leadtek for $193 INCLUDING shipping is a pretty damn good deal for one of the best GTS cards available. The Creative card is only average.

divinemartyr, The Leadtek card you mentioned looks very appealing, I can't figure out why anandtech rated this card a 5.5 while giving the Creative labs card a 8. The leadtek card is right there speed wise with the CL with added features such as TV out and a larger heatsink.

Anyway, how do you like it's TV out performance? and by any chance have you played any Divx movies through it, if so I'm just curious how they play back on a television.

Did the card come in the retail box?

Thanks

edm,

All of these nvidia boards are put together on nvidia reference standards, and the leadtek card just happens to be a step above the rest as far as performance goes. Based on this, the TV out is just as good as any other GEForce2 based card, which is excellent quality. Leadtek actually stopped making the white box version of this board I believe, I haven't seen it available for a while. At first mwave.com was selling the white box version but I haven't seen it since, mine came retail. I think anandtech gave the board a 5.5 based on the package features, i.e. games and software coming with it.

My whole thing with buying hardware is that I want the highest quality piece of hardware. While software is nice, if i was buying software, then this would be important to me. The leadtek card is an excellent choice and for $193 shipped, you can't beat it.

Only thing this card does not do is video IN, however, this was unimportant to me really. The Asus v7700 deluxe offers nice video in features.

One last thing, tomshardware liked this card the best out of the geforce2 solutions, so really it just depends on what you want in a video card, rather than how it's rated.

divinemartyr, really appreciate your reply. I also seen that sharky's is very high on this card out of the GTS bunch, giving it a 9 of 10 I think. So even though I just got a Voodoo 5500 this week, I went ahead and ordered this LeadTek card. I still have a few weeks to return the 5500 so I'll look at both cards for myself and decide which one I want to keep.

My guess is I'll be keeping the LeadTek, nothing against the 5500 it's a very nice card, but to start I like the idea of having the TV out option. And for everything I've read about FSAA, to me it just make the image quality very soft and washed out, so since I'd rather play at a higher res I think going with the speed of the GTS might be a better option for me. Not too mention I've been having a few problems with the 5500.

Anyway, I'll be running some benchmarks with both cards to see how that goes. I will probably use Quake III demo and 3Dmark2000. Does anyone know of another benchmark I should use or give a try?

Thanks again.

Hercules' solutions provide better 2D quality, albeit at a higher price.....

focusing on the deal, it is HOT.

edm: let us know how it works out. i've been trying to decide between the GTS and the V5 for the past couple of weeks. For benchmarks, Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament are the standards. I'd be curious to see how the V5 performs against the GTS with the new faster drivers.

Is it possible to run the UT benchmarks from the demo version? and if so, how do I run them?

Thanks in advance

btw.. I just got done formatting my HD, Installing Win98SE and the 5500 to make sure there are no conflicts with my previous Nvidia drivers, I'll start running the benchmarks later tonight.

I'll do the same thing (format, reinstall windows, and run the GTS benchmarks) when I get the GTS card, hopefully next week.
