She got an Academy Award for singing one song in Les Miserables. OK, technically she sang more than one song, but the Oscar was clearly for I Dreamed a Dream, which was the only good part of that movie.
 
Yes her singing voice sounds good.

she COULD have been a gorgeous hottie,

but she ruined that by chopping off her hair - with her face, her hair was an important beauty asset, now gone. Maybe she did it for a role, but she's continuing to keep it like that, by the time it grows back she won't be young anymore ----stupid.

The hate is singular for someone that lusted after the long-haired Hathaway. And he's upset she got married. Fantasies crushed.
 
I've always thought she was fantastic...and genius that she basically sang her way into Les Mis with her bit at the 2011 Oscars.

Also, let's not forget Havoc...what a fantastically useless movie.

Not from what I recall. Her mom was the theater geek of the family although she's done some stage stuff. Mostly movies though.

So it's great singing and performance and all (not surprised at all because I knew she could sing), but I guess I don't get what's so special about this particular performance.

Maybe because I'm not familiar with the original version of the songs?
