The real tragedy of the situation would be if Elton John wrote another song about some stupid, dead Hollywood skank.

"And it seems to me you lived your life,
Like a heroine spoon under a candle in the wind"

 ...am I goign to hell for that? oh, so what....

The actual DNR paperwork must be present in order to be valid. Without the paperwork there, it doesn't matter, you start CPR and you do everything you're trained to do to revive that person. The family/friends/nurses can bitch and moan as much as they want, but if that paper isn't there, they get worked, period.

She could've had a living will their her nurse was signatory to.

Very true, but (again this is what I've been taught in Ohio) the paperwork (DNR, Living Will, ectera) must be present in order for it to be valid. If it's not there, no matter how much they say it exists and she doesn't want to be ressucitated, you work them. If I'm wrong on this, any other EMS personel on this board feel free to correct me.

I'm not surprised they couldn't revive her. From the article, it seems only EMS were the ones that performed CPR. Two minutes from the time the tones at the station go off to wheels rolling on the ambulance, add in another 5 for transport time for EMS to arrive, seven minutes (or more) without respirations or pulse. Brain damage occurs in as little as 4-6 minutes and myocardium starts dying in even less time. Had someone on scene known CPR or even had access to an AED she probably would have survived. I'm really surprised no one at the Hard Rock didn't have any BLS training or even an AED on scene.

I don't know the numbers, but I do know that once CPR is started--the pounding on the chest that is--the survival rate is very low. It's essentially a last-ditch effort, and used once the patient is technically "dead." If they were pounding on her heart before they got her into the ambulance, she was already dead. TV medical dramas like to inflate the reality of this, of course. All the patient usually gets from the revival efforts are a few broken ribs....

So true. My dad was a paramedic for 10 or soyears, and during his time he recalls around 4 people that they were able to actually revive. CPR is a good skill to know, but it's very much a feel good action.

it is sad...you aholes making crack comments should go eff yourself...she just left behind a new child....that sux...

you friggin momos

Yeah it is sad that she lived such a fvcked up life and never put her children before her drug habits. :disgust: Gimme a break dude. She was a has been centerfold, gold digging, drug addict. And chances are her death probably had something to do with drugs. It is unfortunante for the child she leaves behind but I'm sure the kid will be set financially for life and it's not like the kid would have had a "real" Tollhouse mom anyways.
Yeah when her daughter feels sade and alone without a mom we should just direct her to you and you can explain how much better off she is because her "drug addict" mom is dead. It's clear you first-hand personal knowledge of her life and what kind of person she was.

idiot

10,000 better people die every day. This waste of space doesn't really deserve a single page of posts, let alone 7. She was a moneygrabbing crazy ass junkie. Now she isnt. Who cares.

So basically whenever someone dies, any kind of shittyness they committed in life is forgiven and we are supposed to all cry and reminisce on what a great person they were('nt)?

I doubt anyone here knew Anna Nicole Smith well enough to know what her actual life was like.

Regardless of someone's past life, there's always the hope that they turn the corner and become a more productive member of society. I think the tragedy is that she won't get the chance, and again, assuming we have no fortune tellers here, I'd think it would be anyone's guess at what kind of mother she MIGHT have been in the future.

Either way, regardless if your mother used drugs or not, I doubt there are many people in the world that would cheer at being an infant and losing a parent.

I didn't know Hitler personally either, but I don't care that he's gone. Yea, I know comparing a celeb to Hitler is far fetched, but oh well. Now she's gone, more air for me.

I hope she dies...seriously, she's so fvcked up it would probably be the best thing for her at this point.

Edit-Meh, she died. Oh well, I wonder what kind of drugs they'll find in her during the autopsy.

you're an idiot

Why? Because I don't care that a nutball celebrity died today? Sorry, I can't get all worked up over this like some people...wait a sec, I take that back, I'm not sorry.

Or was it because I said (tongue in cheek) that I hope she died? Fact is, she was probably already dead when I posted that and since it's been quoted a half dozen times it doesn't make much sense to change it now does it?

Edit-Yup, time of death was reported at just after 2PM EST. My original post was made over an hour after her death.

No it's probably because you're being so callous about wanting another human being dead who has absolutely nothing to do with you nor has ever done anything to you.

I said it tongue in cheek and I said it before I knew she died. If I knew she had died I probably wouldn't have said it. I didn't really want her dead (if you bothered to read my response to the first person who called me out on it you would see that).

In other words, get off my back...all of you! :|

she was so breathtakingly beautiful, how could someone with so much,in the end have so little?

I agree. I thought she was a bit of a fruit loop, but it's still sad when someone so young dies, and even worse when they have small children.

Hey, if she's gonna go that's probably the best time as far as the child is concerned. You can't miss what you never had and in all honesty the child is probably better off now anyway. And yes, I do have some firsthand knowledge of this...my wife was adopted as an infant.

The drugs and excess had taken a toil but for awhile there it looked like she was really struggling trying to get her life back, losing weight, getting new contracts, she looked so happy and healthy during her pregnancy and with her new baby.

And she was beautiful, in her Guess ads and Playboy work, the woman was jaw droppingly beautiful.

A child reared amid the storm of a paternity war with a brother and a mother who died as they did... this poor baby has so many strikes against her it's not funny.
