i skipped rope on sunday and my left ankle started to hurt monday. i still could put weight on it so i ran tue and thur (3 miles each). today i looked at the bony part of my left ankle and it's a little swollen. it hurts when my foot is pointing up towards me or down (but it hurts more if it's pointing towards me). if i wiggle it side to side the pain is bearable.
this happened before and it's only when i jump rope on concrete ( i know this is bad). when i jump on a piece of plywood or a puzzle mat all is good.
my question is how come it's only my left ankle that's swelling up when i jump rope? and what exactly is causing the swelling? did i tweak something in my ankle?
while typing this i remember i have gout (last attack happened last year) but it was around my toe area. could this have had any effect on my ankle?
since i could still put weight on it should i run on it or better if i let it rest for a few days? thanks for any advice.
