Anisotropic filtering - what is it?

benn wondering.. what is this anisotropic filtering, and should I enable it on a radeon 9000 pro? what's the performance penalty.

Have you tried reading any of the articles at Anandtech

You can probly find bechmarks for your card if you spend a second looking. I think I remember reading about that card, It'll probly take a big hit, I doubt it's worth it unless your runnng something simple (with an high framerate)

it makes textures on angled surfaces not look like crap.

pipe, for the time it took you to write that, you could've answered my question 5 times .

actually runing aniso x16 doesn't have any performance hit in nfs6.. but maybe it's not complex enough.
