Hey y'all!

Anime Overdose is a new anime convention in the Bay Area. This year it will be quite small compared to the big guns, but the price is right - only $14!!! (to compare, Fanime costs $45 now O_O)

There will be:
- several video rooms playing anime pretty much all day long
- a bunch of guests giving talks, autographs, and performances
- video gaming (Super Smash Brothers Melee all day)
- Yugioh card game training sessions (beginner and advanced)
- karaoke contest
- cosplay contest
- dance
- panels and workshops (e.g. learn to draw manga!!)

and if you are still not sure whether to go or not, this should convince you:
over $30,000 worth of merchandise will be given out during the convention (gifts, freebies, prizes)

...and if you belong to an anime club, you can register here for just $9!!!

anime and yu-gi-oh should NEVER be mentioned in the same thread, BOO

and I'd much rather do AX if I'm to travel all that way, hehe

haha!

well, i don't like yugioh either, but the convention will include both and i HAD to mention both - some people will come for anime, and some - for yugioh

you don't have to go to all events, but you pay the same admission fee regardless

and i WOULD definitely pay $9 for 2 days of anime... if i wasn't getting in for free 😀

I go to cons for the Magic: The Gathering players. Rather, the intelligent ones, which around here are in short supply.

Okay that and women wearing just a bit less than the amount of floss I use in the morning, all in the name of cosplay.

oh crap, i just saw the guest page, fuchizaki yuriko. lol. now i'm getting sakura taisen musical flashbacks.
magic
those are the seiyuus playing their respective parts in the musical. 🙂

There hasn't been any large anime convention here in St. Louis MO lately, but in October there is a pretty nice 4 day Sci-fi convention, which covers all the basics ie Sci-fi/Fantasy, Anime, cosplay, magic, pannels, at least 1 guest from the movie/book industry.... Takes over a convention center/Hotel, quite a blast.... esp the free beer 😉

LOL that's true, there's much better stuff out there than yu-gi-oh or pokemon.

yukichigai:
I'm pretty sure there will be a few MtG players around, but they will not not playing officially. If you can guess who they are and ask them for a game (and if they are not busy managing the con), they'll probably play 😉

as for the Yugioh vs. anime argument - it turns out that a pretty high percentage of the con-goers have not seen anime other than what is being showed on TV, namely pokemon, yugioh, and some others. It is also for this reason that some of the anime at the convention will be played dubbed instead of subtitled.

they'll be showing some stuff dubbed? gah.
i remember when i was at AX a couple years ago, one of the showing rooms was suppose to have sailormoon subbed. guess what? they screwed up and only had the dub, needless to say most of us(~90%) walked out immediately. heh.

the guest list is very weak. it was $25 for AX last year for a 1 day pass. lets see how it fares this year and maybe i'll give it a chance next year.

//krunk (^_^x)

for a small con like this, i'm amazed they got a real seiyuu and people from japan. i've seen lots of small cons where the guests were dubbers/american voice over people. lol

I went to an anime convention once with my friends, not really knowing what it was. It was an alright experience, EXCEPT for the cosplay. Just a bunch of over-weight guys and gals in tight-ass outfits *shudders*

I haven't slept since.

Now, that's not actually Carl's doing, it's Enoki Films USA. They are the middlemen for such notable shows as Utena, Gals!, KareKano (Which they call "Tales of North Hill High", and uh... a bunch of junk. Even though it's not his fault, it certainly seems like something he could do 😀
