It would be crazy if the guy that beat up was innocent. Yet those teenagers still beat him up. It was irresponsible on their part to do that, no matter what anybody says. Innocent until proven guilty, and they should have made damn sure they had the right guy.

I think the mob was in the wrong. It seems so wrong that they did that. Of course I would want some street justice, but how could someone administer this street justice without knowing 100% for certain the recipient was guilty and the right man?

So.. if these kids were wrong, got the wrong guy, or he is innocent, who is going to beat them down?

Assuming Mad Max isn't full of shit, I can empathize with his predicament and frustration.

While society can't sanction taking personal retribution when the justice system doesn't dispense justice, I can't personally bring myself to stand against what he did either.

Vigilante mobs sometimes kill/maim the wrong guy, however, so the incident in the OP cannot be applauded, even if they did target the right guy this time. That said, if it is the right guy, he deserves what he got and more. I have no patience or empathy for those who prey on the defenseless.

Can't a 'person of interest' also involve being a family member / friend of someone they're looking to charge so they can find that person?

Is our penal system flawed? Sure thing. There is mass incarceration for people with drug addictions and mental disabilities who need help, while violent criminals are getting sentenced to 2 years with all but 6 months suspended and getting out after 3 months for "good behavior". Yeah this is fucked up, but it's not our place to step in and deal out punishment when we are dissatisfied with the system.

I agree that someone should have intervened. We don't even know if the guy was guilty. I wouldn't have participated in the beating myself, but if it turns out that he is guilty it won't bother me at all that he got a beating. I do think that the people who beat him need to be punished for what they did.

Now you happen to be strolling down the street minding your own business when a mob suddenly appears and give you the royal beatdown because they thought you were him. Kind of sucks, doesn't it?

Kind of like the cop who tackled that guy and broke his neck and put him in a coma last week? They had the wrong guy....

If the guy was guilty (the rapist), then they should have slit his throat right there.. HOWEVER, he wasn't proven guilty in a court of law, so the beat down was not right at all, and those that did it should be severely punished.
