Angel: The Most Underrated Show Ever?

I've been a big fan of Angel since it spun off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The show has always carried a hard edge that Buffy never could, it's like watching Batman sometimes, man in the shadows, only coming out at night to fight the forces of evil. It's always been good stuff, but this season they have gone beyond good into classic. Last night's episode was one of the best things I've seen on TV in probably 5 years! If you're not watching this show and you're a fan of sci-fi/action, you are seriously missing out. I would suggest you catch the next 5 episodes and see just what you've been missing. Whatever you think this show might be, you're probably wrong. The mythology in Angel blows away anything ever presented in the X-Files or even Buffy itself.

I like the show aswell but over here in the UK they've only shown the first 2 seasons it seems to be taking an age to show the third

honestly, I prefer the older buffy's to that of angel... it just doesnt do anything for me... the new buffy is too ... campy, and not dark enough like early in the show

I like what Angel is supposed to be, but some of the actors mess it up. Gunn's character just plain sucks, and so does his acting. Fred is hot (she's a girl for those who don't know) but I don't think she belongs in this show. She's just weird. Cordy is hot, even more so than when she was on Buffy and I like her character more now. Wesley is cool, although Angel bout killed him last night. Angel was pissed off!!! Angel is what brings this show to life, he plays that dark, silent, brooding type very well.

I knew Angel was going to go through the roof in the hospital room with Wes. My wife was like "wow, didn't see that", but if I've learned one thing from Angel, it's that they always leave you at the end of the really tense episodes with some weird twist that you should have never expected. It becomes predictable that they will do something totally unpredicatable, and I like that.

lol, it was the other way around for my wife and I. She watches Angel and Buffy regularly, while I only catch a couple episodes to know the jist of the season. But the remaining season looks very good. When did Cordy cut her hair? I LIKES IT!!!

There have been rumors that the show is being cancelled due to a low number of viewers. Hopefully that's not true, as I think it's one of the most innovative shows on TV in quite awhile IMO. Can't wait until they start releasing it on DVD.

Also, I enjoyed the part where he's hauling the Wolfram and Hart guy up the stairs and when Lilah tells him something, he just lets the guy go in the chair he's tied to. Priceless.

The White Room was kind of freakish, the little girl was a great character though, hopefully they visit there again at some point.

I've never really liked that show, or Buffy. I thought Buffy was gonna be awesome, because the movie with Kristy Swansen rocked, and she is so hot, as well as Sarah Michelle, but it really isn't all it was cut out to bed.

I think Smallville has to be the most underrated show ever. LOL. 😀

I like Smallville a lot too, but I think they tried to shove in too many characters from Superman history into one little town. The guy they chose for Lex Luthor couldn't be more perfect though. I've been watching Smallville as well though, although it doesn't have the dark edge that Angel has.

I watch and enjoy smallville.

i have 3 kids and the older 2 like to watch tv with me. especially the oldest. so i have to be careful what i watch. i think angel is just a little too dark for them.

wow, i would never have guessed angel might be a good show.

my prepared snarky response was
Angel: The most bottom of my list to watch show ever.

I suppose that's their problem, that they probably lost a big potential audience by being a buffy spinoff?

Actually I thought that chair down the stairs scene was the most brutal thing I've seen in any of the Angels so far. I mean he's always been dark and volatile but he's always done what he thought was right (except when he's Angelus of course). Last night he showed that he'd gone beyond that and he really didn't give a rat's ass what happened to the man in the chair. I was really pretty shocked (in a good way) when I saw that.

Buffy and Angel both have very very good writing, especially compared to the rest of the crap on TV lately. (like Enterprise. *gack*)

I like Fred. She fits well because she doesn't fit well. Her character is a perfect contrast to Angel. He's dark, violent, angry, while Fred is the sweet, gushy girl - the innocent girl routine makes her strangely hot. 🙂 I agree about Gunn though.

I'd be quite upset if they canceled it. :|

I used to watch Angel regularly, but I have class on Tuesdays when it and Buffy come on :| I loved both shows. I'd ask for a brief summary of what's been going on in Angel, but its been forever since I watched it, it'd take awhile. But, if you have time and are willing to do it, PM's are most welcome!

Damn I was watching the end of that episode and I was expecting Angel to be mad at Wes... but not that mad! 🙂 It's just crazy when you think what might happen in the future with those two. I've liked Angel more than Buffy now. Buffy was good during the high school years but now..... its not that great anymore. Amy Acker is so cute too.

I like Smallville too but it's boring having the kryptonite influence in almost every episode..

I'm waiting for the episode to appear on EasyNews, as I can't get the show here at school. Grrr, I hate waiting. As for being cancelled, even if the WB does cancel it (and it doesn't look like they will), UPN is contrctually obligated to pick it up and air it for at least one more season. Also, the DVDs for the first two seasons are out in the UK. Second season just came out on Monday, and I haven't picked it up yet.

Not having seen the ep yet, I can't comment on the ruthlessness of his act, but I doubt it compares to what he did last season when he locked a bunch of lawyers in a room with two vampires. Yeesh.
