It was an ace.

no sh!t it was an ace:D

Even if the other guy had managed an attempt at returning it, it would have gone through his racket....:p

I remember a few years ago, Pete Sampras hit a monster serve that Patrick Rafter attempted to return --- It went right through Rafter's racket and busted 3 or 4 main strings when it passed through. :Q

Andy has one helluva serve, but if could have anyones serve, it would be Pete's...He had the best combination of pace and spin I have ever seen.

I remember watching that live...that blew me away. I've seen Roddick play, he's just phenomenal..it's good to know there's some future for US mens tennis after Agassi/Samprass

Sampra's server > anyone's. He probably holds the record for aces per game.
His signature serve starts with his left foot forward on his heel, then his lean-back which looks like he's gonna fall over, then ACE

And his serve-volley is so effective.... I love him! come back to us!!

This is why I prefer to watch women's tennis. It's more entertaining because they have a better chance of returning a serve and starting a rally. That and, women tennis players are hot. That is until the Williams brothers came along and started serving so freaking hard and looking so freaking ugly.

Pete's serve is classic; smooth movement, no wasted energy and he was using late 80s racquet technology, the Wilson ProStaff.

I miss watching Sampras play. Some people may say he was boring but he was one heck of a player with a well-rounded game. I would like to see Roddick do 153 with a Sampras Pro Staff.
But nonetheless, 153 is illllll.

Roddick will get himself injured easily from what i have heard the way he serves. Something with his hips rotating so much, and his shoulder the way it moves.

but 153 is fast. I dont know what i can serve, but 153 is insane.

Roddick dumped Mandy because he thought her publicity was interfering with his game

I think I just put his serve into perspective today...

My condo overlooks Hwy 400 here in Barrie, ON. Average speed is roughly 115-130, depending on lane choice...

Today, a group of pigeon decides to attempt to fly across the hwy... One apparently decidied it was afraid of heights, and swooped down to a lower level, directly into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer that i conservatively estimated at 110. An explosion of feathers later, I remember this thread, and the speed of the serve...

For some reason, the thought of playing tennis in anything but protective gear (I'm thinking Full Plate), seems ludicrous....

Just thought I'd share..

:D

WTF?:
Afterwards Llodra said: "I didn't do it deliberately. But at least I saved the moth."

Anyone got the video of a serve digging into the clay after a bad call by a line official and the chair?

Yeah, Sampra's serve was form and function... but ProStaff = junk. Besides, it wasn't the sheer pace and spin that put Pistol Pete's serve up there... it was his accuracy and consistency combined with good pace and proper spin. He was "only" serving in the high 120s... "only" :p

Considering pros are banned from using extra long racquets, Roddick could conceivably serve faster. Everyone in the game describes serves like Roddick's as "heavy" rather than just merely fast. It's similar to slapshots in hockey. Some guys hit very hard and fast shots but some feel like they would plow right through you like a cannonball. And to think... Roger Federer actually returned Andy's 130+ serves like a walk in the park.

Well I would bet the serve was down the middle T, since that's the shortest distance the ball would have to travel. Normally one stands near the singles sideline, so unless that 153 mph serve had some wicked spin I doubt you would have anything to worry about.
