Android: Why so many apps wanna read my contact info?

shortylickens

No Lifer
And I'm talking about games and media apps. Why the hell do they need to read my contact info? Are they gonna stalk my friends and family? Are they gonna spam them?

At any rate, I'm glad the Marketplace makes them tell me in advance what they need to access. Also, theres an assload of reviews dated today so I'm betting lots folks got introduced to Android today.

I think the market is more warning you what parts of your phone the programs CAN access.. not necessarily that they do. If a game does it, it may be for score ranking among your contacts or something like that.

I do appreciate the warnings, though.. they have been helpful.

Aye, I've stopped from installing several apps because of those warnings.

this is how google will get to know everything about you, who you talk to , what's their phone number, like it hasn't done through web services.

go figure.
