android viruses/trojans?

Is there some new android virus/trojan which hijacks a phone and causes it to send spam text messages to people in their address book? Because I've gotten a couple lately...
 
Are the ones you're getting from people who you'd expect to be too cheap to buy apps and therefore pirate them? (and also too dumb to make sure it's not from a questionable place?)
