android users: are you using cyanogen mod on your phone?

I have a captivate and im waiting for it to be released on my device, but i have a feeling its still a few months away.

What id like to know though is, what is so great about it? Right now im using Cognition and it seems pretty solid. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786532

Should i care that much if its released soon or not? And if it is available on your phone (droid, etc) are you using it? or are you using aomething else?
 
Every phone has different ROMs on it. Not every phone will get a Cyanogen ROM. I have a Samsung Moment and that specific ROM was never made for my phone. Every phone will have different developers making ROMs for it.
 
i'm using it, nexus one. i don't swap roms too much, so i just chose one and stuck with it. what i like most about it is the customizable led notifications
 
I switch between Sapphire and Cyanogenmod for my Droid 1. Both are excellent builds and each has strengths and weaknesses. Currently, I use Cyanogenmod, but I'll swing back to Sapphire for their next major release.

Going by CM's new unique install tracking, more people are running CM then bought the Kin One and Two. 😛

Thats why i said if its available on your phone do you use it.

I know not every phone has it, but i know itll eventually end up on the captivate, so im just wondering what the big deal is. I mean, is what im using right not just about as good as cyanogen? which would mean theres really no reason to get all excited for cyanogen to come out.
 
i've played with a captivate, and it was plenty fast... but if you want the customizations of CM6, then maybe it'll be worth the wait. I have an EVO, and I was jealous of the smooth-ness of the galaxy-s phones... but had CM6, and made up the difference. heard EVO 4G had the 30 cap removed, unrooted, and went back, and wow... Sense UI is a pig!
 
I have CM6 on my EVO, my only complaint is that the GPS doesn't seem to work as good anymore. Stock ROM would acquire a GPS lock in seconds, but with CM6 it takes on the order or minutes.
 
I used it for a while on my EVO but switched back to Fresh. I didn't care for the keyboard and swype kept "expiring". Another major irritation for me was the dialer, it sucks. So far as I can tell you can't change it. I really like sense being gone other than those two issues. I am a launcherpro and beautiful widgets fan so that takes care of my looks. If I could fix those two issues I'd give it another look.

Few questions, I believe CM uses the stock Android dialer and keyboard by default. These are things that will be identical any any vanilla Android device. I don't care for the stock keyboard and I always install the HTC_IME keyboard. I'd used Swiftkey if it left the hardware keyboard alone.

But what is the difference between the Sense dialer and the stock dialer? Its a pad with numbers.
 
Yes. Given that 90% of the custom firmwares out there use Cyanogen for their base framework, nearly everybody should say "yes".

Pretty much this. Given that CyanogenMOD was built from the ground up from Android Source, has a team of hard-working developers rather than just one or two, and has frequent updates (you'll NEVER get this on a stock rom), I've found that it's simply the most stable, quick, and comprehensive of any ROM I've used.
 
The Sense dialer is much better than the stock Android one. If you press 3, it will bring up contacts who names begin with d e or f starting with the 1st d. It makes finding contacts if you have a lot of them fast and real easy. DialerOne's a free app in the Market that does the same thing. After using either I wouldn't want to go back to the stock dialer again. I believe the Sense dialer also supports speed dialing, where I didn't see that has a feature in the stock dialer (WTF Google no speed dial? really?) HTC's becoming my favorite company.

This is the only thing I really miss about sense. Anyone know of a good alternate dialer that has this functionality?
 
I am running CM6 (Froyo) on my G1 and it's much faster than the stock 1.6. Also, the customizations are great.
 
I use the Enomether ROM on my N1. Really nice although it sucks up battery. I have a charging system pretty much everywhere so I'm not inconvenienced but would be nicer if it were otherwise.
 
No, because it's not available for the Samsung Epic yet. In fact for now there are only a couple of custom ROMs for the Epic and they're not worth using yet.
 
My Droid Incredible seems to love CM6.02. I see much better battery life and its faster than the old 2.1 stock.

Oh, and CityID is no longer loaded all the time. That is annoying.
