At first I thought, no that's dumb. But then, I actually would prefer that, especially with how Google is changing their services and Android:

I think the standard Android version is going to be very heavily Google-fied. What I'd be curios about is if Android could continue evolving like it has if Google continues to integrate their services into it? Could they branch it so the "stock" Android is totally Google branded with all of their stuff integrated like that, and leave the AOSP to still do what its been doing?

I like it. Android sounds weird to me for an os, and their naming scheme for each version is god awful.

I was thinking there already was a Google OS, but it's called Chrome OS.

I nominate it all be combined together and called Chrome OS Mobile.

More or less that's what its moving to, Google seems to be starting to take the first steps towards pushing Android to being a web based setup like ChromeOS is.

Kinda like how it'd be nice if Microsoft would just converge Windows already, so its all Windows instead of WP/RT/x. Granted they have issues with the ARM/x86 stuff, but then maybe the development should have been focused on converging WP and RT/Metro, and have that run as a VM overlay.

Don't think it will happen. IMO not every phone manufacturer is going to want to give Google free advertising, even if they do use their OS.

LOL.

"Ah, nice choice of your purchase of an Android phone for you. Let's begin setting it up, shall we? First, we need a username and password for your Google account. Then you can download apps from the Google Play Store, and store your music in your Google Music app. Photos are available in Google+, and Google Hangouts will handle all of your SMS messages now. Have you tried the new voice activated Google Search? You just say "Hey Google" and ask a question...."

Yep...those manufacturers want to bury any sign of Google advertising.

Do you really have to have a google account for all droid phones?

google is getting nastier, forcing youtubers onto google+ etc..., i wouldnt be surprised if they did something like this. it would probably make manufacturers look at other os's like tizen and firefox though

so you don't plan on going on google play with an andoid device?

You're not being "forced" to have a Google account when you have a Android powered phone. You just get access to all the services if you do.

There are people out there that use a fully degoogle-fied phone.

There are alternative app stores and such that you can use.

About this. Their mascot is stupid as well; the whole thing seems like it was thought up by some highschool computer club.

Man, people need a hobby if they have the time to hate on version code names and innocuous mascots.

And you can jailbreak iPhones and load pirated apps. Bottom line, android os is designed around a google account, sure you can circumvent it, but that is not how it is supposed to be.

What you think they are giving the OS away out of goodness of their heart?

And? AOSP doesn't have a requirement for a Google account. If it did, the Kindle Fire could never exist, Android powered smart watches could never exist, cheap ass Chinese android tablets couldn't exist, nooks, the new android based OS for Tesla vehicles, all that stuff couldn't exist if Android required a Google account.

If you want access to Google services, sure most people have a google account in order access them for convenience sake, but there is literally nothing stopping you from installing a pure AOSP build on your phone and not accessing a single Google service and taking every mention of the word google out of the source code. Hell make bing your default search provider if you want. The phone will still work 100%.
