android, ssh tunnel for web browsing?

I've been trying to get this to work all morning, but just can't seem to, and I bet it's something simple I'm doing incorrectly in the opera mobile proxy settings.

I want to set up an ssh tunnel for web browsing on android. I'm using connectbot (enabled port forward socks dynamic) and opera mobile (localhost😛ort).

If you've got it working, I need some pointers. TIA!

I prefer not to root, nor use adb to set up global proxying. And I'm not sure that my shell supports transparent http proxy.
