You should be able to get a secondhand Rogers Captivate/AT&T Captivate/Telus Fascinate/Bell Vibrant for that price -- different names for slightly different (but mostly the same) Galaxy S models on the right bands for you. All Galaxy Ses are really easy to unlock (root plus this app), unless perhaps the previous owner has borked the efs partition with brainless flashing. If it hasn't been rooted or if the efs partition was backed up, no problem.

Just make sure you don't get a Verizon Fascinate or T-Mobile Vibrant -- the only US carrier that works is AT&T.

Galaxy S has a regular 850/1900 model. You don't have to get the AT&T version to get those bands.

Dunno if you can get it for $400 though. With a $400 budget, you might have to look at something cheaper like the HTC Desire. Either way 850/1900 unlocked phones are pricey. The Euro bands are a lot cheaper.

I am not big fan of Samsung. I had bad experience with Samsung products. Samsung captivate has better processor than HTC desire. Is it noticeable for internet use or playing games?

Although my friend is selling Iphone 3gs unlocked for $300. The phone is in good condition. when you buy second hand phone from the internet, you never know what will be the condition of the phone?

If i buy Iphone then I have to buy iphone applications from the apple website but in case of android, its an open source.Am I right?

Thanks

Yes, though there's an Android market. The Samsung GPU helps with games -- though it never goes from playable to not playable, since even the Playstation phone will be slower than the Samsung -- and the Super AMOLED screen is always a plus. I was linking to new in box eBay auctions -- you should have full manuf. warranty, plus eBay/Paypal is quite buyer-friendly if there's an initial screwup. But a smart HowardForum guy may be able to give you the phone pre-unlocked with Froyo (the latest OS, not official yet on the AT&T Captivate), etc...

The thing is, AT&T is a huge customer base, so there's a lot more Captivates floating around than any other 850/1900 Android. If you're interested in Apple, wait for the flood of iPhone 4 users who flee to Verizon next week. ;)

If the phone needs to be unlocked to be use for Rogers, you're not going to find unlockable IP4 that easy.
Unlocked IP4 are selling for at least $600 on CL and more on Ebay.
Sometimes you might find one selling for $550 but those get gobbled up right away.
Sometimes you might get really really lucky and find people selling IP4 still on the old version but thats far and few in between.
iOS 4.1(not unlockable) came out in early Sept so people have had 5 months to update their IP4.
The last time I found someone who sold me an IP4 that was on 4.01 was 2 months ago.
Seems like anyone who still have the old version KNOW that its an unlockable IP4.

That's true, but it should be cracked eventually... Anyway, there will be a flood that brings prices down soon enough.

3GS for 300$ sounds alright, I just don't like the screen resolution of iPhones before the 4. You have to go through the App Store, but there's plenty of free stuff. If you want more options, you can jailbreak it and access a bunch of other apps.

If you don't want Samsung, then HTC Desire or Nexus One are good phones also.

Thats what IP4 owners with 4.1 been saying but its been 5 months and theres no rumor that a unlock crack is coming.
It seems that it takes longer and longer for these guys to crack Apple updates.

I don't use mobile phone often thats why I am going for Rogers prepaid service..You can buy $100 coupon and its valid for 1 year. I need it for playing games, music while I am on my way to work and clicking pictures on special occasions.

IP4 unlocked is at high price, my friend who has IP 3GS is selling it for $300 and its unlocked and jailbreak also..

I am looking for HTC desire unlocked and bid for new phones on ebay but now as I am getting Iphone 3GS for $300 unlocked jailbbreak so little confused..If I get HTC desire for $350 on ebay , I wll buy it otherwise Iphone 3gs which is unlocked and jailbreak

You really should do some research before going any further. Yes, superuser app means you are rooted. However, since that was unclear to you I suspect you are walking into this pretty blindly. If you're not careful you may brick your phone.
