Friend of mine bought a DX2 back in August. She's a pretty average consumer, with no technical knowledge to speak up. She can't tell the difference between the screen on the X2 and the screen on her old Droid 1. And the DX2 usually rates as having one of the worst screens.

Neither of those use SAMOLED screens. Obviously the average consumer can't tell the various flavors of LCD apart but SAMOLED looks very different.

Don't forget, B&N has a larger ebook&magazine store than Amazon, and since both have access to Netflix, both are on level playing fields with regards to content. Possibly a little more weight to B&N.

Yeah, but Amazon has the appstore, which isn't horrible compared to the android market. B&N doesn't have either one of those, so you are going to be VERY limited in terms of what you can load on it right out of the box. After rooting/hacking etc is a different story of course, but that presents it's own issues.

But this thread is about screen whores pimping how its SAMOLED Plus HD Ulimate XXX Platinum Edition or bust. :p Its about Samsung pricing the Tab 7 Plus outside where it should be. I'm going to bet its going get a price cut before Christmas.

I won't consider a tablet unless it has the Platinum Edition screen, lol. Anyway, general consumers have a hard time differentiating things like this. I remember when 1080p first came out, some people couldn't tell the difference from 480p.

As for Gtab7+, if it were a 10" screen then the price would have been more reasonable.

having owned the Tab 7.0 Plus since friday, im quite happy with it. wife has a nook color that i played with earlier this year but when she got tired of me always playing with it (sd card cm7 boot ftw!) i got my own tablet and went with the acer iconia a500, a 10". it was nice at first but over time i came to realize the size/weight was just too much. this Tab is the perfect size and weight. i can much more comfortably lay in bed and play with it without getting tired of holding it up. the screen i think is quite nice. way better than the acer atleast. the other major selling point was the IR port. the peel app that works with it has real potential. granted, i have a harmony one already but the ease of finding a show to watch on the tab is so nice compared to scrolling through the guide on my tivo. peel has some bugs so ive only really used it a couple times (it likes to turn my receiver off when i try to watch a show). once that app gets working, ill be super happy with my purchase. wifi reception on this is better than the iconia and battery life massively improved. yes, the fire is cheaper, but in terms of hardware specs, the sammy is superior (and has IR). the fire may or may not be hackable and i dont want to be locked into their cloud browser and app store. after best buy gave me $230 trade-in for the acer i walked out with the tab 7 plus for $200 so i dont feel too bad.

i will give in to the fact that if i wasnt a tech nerd and walked into the store, the 7+ may appear overpriced compared to other options. but i researched and knew ahead of time what i was getting and i think i made the right choice for my needs.

The low end will make money as well. Amazon sells the Fire for about what it costs them to make, and will recoup those losses in content sales. B&N's Nook Tablet is the same time. Generic Chinese tablets will be relegated to using hardware a generation or 2, possibly 3, behind the current generation in order to undercut the Amazon/B&N offerings.

But, the price differences between the low, middle, and high end are all very close to begin with, and with tablets only actually costing 200-250 to make, there's plenty of room to make a normal profit margin on any device. Keep in mind, Apple's 100% profit margins are the exception, not the norm. 15% is a normal profit margin.

Once it gets out of Apple & Samsung's legal tussle.

Yeah, the Fire and Kindle will make money NOT from the sale of the tab but what the customers buy with it after purchase -- they are a loss-leader. Nothing else in the low and middle will make money and only the high end will actually make money from the sale of the tab alone.

Apple is well positioned here as they have a customer base that would buy a turd if it had an Apple logo on it AND the tab is large and large justifies the higher price. The problem with the smaller tabs like the 7.7 I want is that too many customers are unwilling to pay the same amount for a 7 inch tab as a 10 inch tab even when the smaller tab is more practical.

iPods, iPhones, iPads, millions sold of each. I don't see how a turd could be that successful. Not every iPod/iPhone/iPad consumer was a part of the Apple cult.

iPads expensive? If I remember correctly Android tablets costed more than iPads originally, it wasn't until recently that Android tablets became competitive price wise. Amazon is losing money on the Kindle and the Gtab7+ isn't all that cheap, but apparently iPads are overpriced.

Apple is well positioned in the tablet market not because of dumb luck. I think its obvious how they got there while all the vapoware tablets that were supposed to release before the iPad1 never materialized. Even Google wasn't prepared for tablets, that's why Android tablets are taking so long to take a foothold.
