Note4 is pretty damn good. Samsung puts a decent shooter in their higher end devices.

Low light on the Note4 is ridiculously good, IMO. And shutter speed is great. I take pictures of my daughter at taekwondo, and it takes them as fast as I can hit the button.

My girlfriend (iPhone 6) is constantly jealous of my Note 4 pictures. But hey, Apple, right?

Alright, I'm convinced. I wonder if the Note 4 has root at least. I don't really need a custom ROM but root is nice for restoring apps.

It has been mentioned quite a few times already but Note 4 is definitely as good as the iPhone 6/6+ camera in every way.

Iphone 6 camera looks to be a great all around camera. Used to own a oneplus. Took fantastic photos outdoor but in low light it looks much more grainier than iphones would be. I think the s5 and note 4 g3 are good competitiors from what I can see.

If it has an unlocked bootloader, it has root. I'm running a rooted T-mo Note 4 on AT&T.

I find that hard to believe, maybe she doesn't know how to take pics? I have a 6+ and while I think its camera is the best of any mobile device the Note 4 has an outstanding camera. And pics taken on both will look excellent so long as the person taking them knows what they're doing. People who claim one way or the other about a vastly superior camera are either flat out lying or don't know what they're talking about. I will say this imho the iOS 8 camera app absolutely smokes anything I've seen on an Android phone.

I said 6, not 6+, but hey, glad you're focused on taking personal shots at my girlfriend. Typical iPhone fanboy douchebag.

Removed the personal attack and use of fanboy. This is a warning.

I also said anyone who says the iPhone takes vastly better pictures is full of it too, guess you missed that part. My friend has an iP6 and we took a bunch of pictures today and comparing them I can't honestly say I would put the 6+ camera over the 6. The pics look close to identical and any differences are personal preference type things.

As for the bold, this is my 2nd iPhone, I've owned about 10 Android phones and currently also have an M7 I use.

Removed the personal attack from the quote

It makes no difference whether you compare the 6 or the 6+ camera to the Note 4, in OPs case they are the same.

He needs FAST AUTOFOCUS. Both the 6 and 6+ have apple's new DSLR-style fast autofocus. There is nothing on the market even close in android terms, for MOVING OBJECTS.

OP wants to take pics of his kids running around. Don't direct him to a great STILL cam like the Note 4 just because you love android.

LOL at calling him a iphone fanboy, I've had several arguments with Qbert over android and he has always been someone who likes both, but I would say leans toward google if anything.

If you're referring to the phase detection autofocus that the iPhone 6 features, that's already been implemented in the GS5 before. I do believe from user comments that the iPhone 6 implementation is doing a better job but let's not go too far in praise.

Apparently the LG G3 and the Note 4 also has this.

The implemenentation is DRASTICALLY worse. The note 4 has similar shutter response to the iphone 5s. The 6 is much much better at moving objects.

If OP wants to sacrifice photo quality that is one thing. He says he does not. I don't know how you can reccomend an android phone to somebody that walks in saying "shutter speed, auto focus, performance" and say Note 4. Note 4 takes more detailed still pics in good light, that's about all it does better than the 6 plus.

Take all the reviews, and average them. The iphone is a vastly superior phone for taking pics and everyone here knows it.

Aren't the Sony z2 and z3 really good camera wise for android? I know picture quality is good but I don't know about autofocus speed.

I really don't care what you've owned. You can tell what you are by your use of unprovoked personal attacks in your argument.

The fact that we can view my Note photos on a display with 3.5x more pixels than the iPhone display probably doesn't hurt either, eh?

Real life ownership of both phones jives with reviews in my opinion. The iPhone 6 has a fantastic camera, but so does the Note 4. There is no substantial difference in daily use.

Note 4 - superior daylight photos (detail) and better front camera
IPhone 6 - simpler, more intuitive camera app
Equal in real world usage - low light and focus speed.

I've had great success in using both phones in our family in all mixed conditions. If you really had to pick one, I'd say the iPhone still focuses a tiny bit faster while low light pics are better in the Note 4, but again real world usage is basically the same.

You'll be very happy with either camera.

There is a reason why Note 4 smoked iPhone 6 in PA's blind camera comparison, it's one of the best smartphone cameras all around.

www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-Gal...comparison-iPhone-6-is-distant-second_id61676

Is it really fair to put Samsungs highest end smart phone camera against the iPhone 6? IOS on the 6+ does make a difference if you know how to take pics. Seems like a really, I dunno, unfair comparison. Maybe the reason the iPhone got "smoked" was because they didn't even use Apple's best camera offering in the test?

IMHO it should be iP6 vs SG5 where the Samsung gets "smoked"
and iP6+ Vs Note 4, where, well we don't know who smokes who because they didn't even include the phone in the chart.

OP the reason why there are a few people here who debate the iphone 6 camera supremacy is twofold:

1) This is a VERY pro-android forum. Obviously.

2) The Note 4 does do higher detail (it is 16 megapixel) IN GOOD LIGHT.

Problem is, it does worse detail in low light. The detail in provides in good light is mostly useless because very few can tell the difference. And finally, the autofocus and shutter speed are both drastically worse than the iphone 6. The ONLY time you'll see this is when taking pics of moving objects, which is why people here can cite these blind camera comparison tests that all use still images of buildings from long distances in good light (wonder why the note 4 won? lol).

Please don't allow this forum's bias to make you discount not only my advice but the majority of the reviews too. This is your kid you are talking about.

Each camera has it's pros and cons, neither smokes the other overall, it's all about what you use it to take pics of.

True. If he was taking day shots, of stuff that isn't going to be moving 90% of the time I'd say the Note 4 is better.

I'm just saying in this guy's case I think the 6 Plus is definitely the way the to go because not only is the camera UI better, the quality of fast moving shots is superior also. Both will help him if he needs to quickly grab his camera and get a shot of a moving object, which is what he'll be doing.

That brings me to another point, the speed at which you can access the camera in android is much much slower than ios. On ios I think it's like .3-.5 seconds and on android its nearly 3 even on some flagships.

the m7 and m8 have super fast cameras as well, unfortunately low res...

my nexus 6 is way, way better than my nexus 5. i haven't used an ip6 or 6+ but with hdr+ off, the nexus 6 is plenty fast, and even faster with new camera api 2 apps.

I'm sure it's improved since my Galaxy S4 days when it was like 5 seconds, but the iphone 5s, 6, and 6+ all do it in less than half a second. The camera app is somehow kept in virtual memory in springboard (not sure specifics) but it allows iOS to have super low access times for the camera.

The reason Android cameras aren't accessible as quickly is the camera app has to be loaded from memory in android, and isn't allowed to stay loaded in the backround at all times on an OS level.
