Android Phone problem.

So a few months ago I picked up a droid razr (original xt912) on ebay after my bionic crapped out. A couple of days ago I pulled it out of my pocket to see the words "encryption unsuccessful" on the screen. There was a button that said "reset phone" so I pressed it and it rebooted and gave me the dead android icon.

I can't figure out how to fix it. I've already tried reflashing it to the latest OTA android release using RSD Lite. The flash occurs without errors, but the result is always the same "encryption unsuccessful" screen. I've tried all the options in mattlgroff's droid utility as well with no results.

At the time of the error I was running the latest stock OTA android release provided by verizon (I believe it is JB 4.1) with no custom add ons or rooting. The only thing I've tried flashing it with is the stock verizon ROM.

Has anybody run across this before? If so, how did you fix it? I'm kind of at my wit's end here. any help would be appreciated.

This is the screen I'm getting. I can't get the phone to do anything else except boot into AP fastboot, but it will charge while in this screen at least.

No takers? Does anyone at least know of any other way besides rsd lite and mattlgroffs utility that I can flash my phone to a working rom of some kind? Everything I've found seems to require that the phone at least be able to reach the home screen and be able to run an app as part of the process. All I get is the screen above. I've also tried reflashing and booting the phone after removing the sd card. No joy.

Take it to Verizon?

I didn't get it from verizon, and it's the old model razr (the first smartphone razr). It's almost certainly far out of any kind of warranty. Will they still help me with it in that case?

Doesn't hurt to ask. YMMV, but I've been helped by them even when I was out of warranty on some phones.

Seems to me that somehow you (for lack of a better phrase) "pocket dialed" the steps to encrypt the phone, and then somehow interrupted it.

The fact that RSDLite is not fixing it is not a good sign (to be honest), unless you are using an XML file that specifically is made to not touch the data partition (many are floating around XDA). I had a Droid 4 (no longer have it) which is essentially the same device with a keyboard so I can't give you step-by-step instructions.

I would boot into recovery and do a factory reset. If memory serves me correctly, once you get to the dead android I think if you press and hold vol up + vol down that should get you into recovery. From there do a factory reset and make sure to wipe everything except /system :D. That should fix it. If it doesn't, I'd post this to the RAZR XDA subforum. There should be devs (if there are any left) lurking there that know the phone much better than most.

I was able to perform the factory reset, but it didn't change anything. I guess I'll head over to the xda forums and see what they can tell me. If I get nothing there I suppose I'll have to make the trek to the verizon store. I can't figure out why nothing is working. There should be a fresh, new copy of android on my phone at this point. This is highly frustrating :\
