Android P Beta now Live - Google I/O

As announced during today's Google I/O Keynote, the Beta for Android P is now available for select devices:

Pixel, Pixel XL
Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL
Essential Phone
Nokia 7 Plus
Oppo R15 Pro
Sony Xperia XZ2
Vivo X21, X21UD
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S

This brings official Android Level support for "notch" cutouts in Apps, HDR VP9 support, and Machine Learning supported Adaptive Battery Learning. There's also new widget and app behavior. Overall its very much a evolution on Android O vs. all new-new stuff (I'd say most of the meaningful changes are under the hood).

I might try this new new on my Pixel 2 XL, if I can find the time

If you turn on the gesture control, that's a pretty big front-facing change.

I'm going to wait a bit longer before getting on the beta. DP3 should be very representative of the final release, and I'll get on that. Still hearing enough talk of quirks that are keeping me off the current beta.

I really hope they don't keep the horizontal task switcher. I know it's probably because they want to use the sideswipe gesture to switch apps but it's just slower when you want to get at the opposite sides of your apps (which means Google will probably want to keep it horizontal in my cynical mind).

I don't see it going away at this point. My initial reaction is not liking it, but I'll wait to see how I feel when it launches. I usually don't go back more than 5 apps or so. Hopefully this isn't going to adversely affect me.

Is the UI still horrible eye-burning light-gray on white background introduced in O? In addition to being slow as hell that was the best part of going with LineageOS based on N; can actually see the icons again. If they don't change that I'll have to use other versions of android, or stay on N. Makes me a bit sad.

Been running the beta for a week as a daily driver without noticing any issues with apps. Just the Nova vertical app drawer was messed up but they updated Nova and that's fixed. I am not using the single home button/gestures though. I like the three buttons.
