Sorry, but this one pisses me off. My iPad 2 has basically the same hardware inside of it as an iPhone 4S, so why aren't they supporting it on the iPad as well?

didn't find my iphone only work on the 4 last year? now the app store says 3gs as well

apple does this to beta test products with limited users. expect it to be released to older phones sometime next year. even apple said it's beta until 2012

As far as I know yes, but they also removed the previous app from the market, which stopped anything not called a 4S from being able to get that new feature.

Speaking of which, the latest Apple commercials all seem to be about Siri, a feature from iOS 5 that isn't "supported" on anything but the newest iPhone.

Apple fragmenting it's phones? Say it isn't so!!!

I was under the impression that Siri was an app widely available at the app store for ~1 year before Apple decided to make it a built-in feature with 4S...after some improvements, I assume.

The Siri in app form was radically different. It was merely a search portal with voice recognition support. Very barebone, and not very useful at all.

The current Siri does a lot more than the app form.

But if anything, Siri-app-form-like apps are still available. Dragon Go! and Vlingo are prime examples.

I have an EVO 4G, I read HTC's vague as hell press release about ICS, looks like my slightly over 1 year old phone won't be getting the update. But according to what I've read here, that's okay because Android's so uber even if I was still on 1.6 I wouldn't need an update because Android does everything under the sun + 1.

/waits for people to chime in about how people can get a hacked rom to put ICS on an EVO. Gotta love rigged workarounds 😀

If it's your first smartphone, get an iPhone.

Why, cause you overspent one one and feel the need to justify it? Plenty of Android devices work fine out of the box, I'll bet 75% of Android phone users don't know or can't be bothered to get into rooting, if your a nerdy power user, it's considered fun..

How about if it's your first smartphone, you do your best to decide what you're going to do with it, then make a choice based on cost, reviews, etc.

There are 3 fully viable mobile systems out there, 4 if you count BB, and they all have strengths.

iOS is the only one that will immediately start tying all your media licences etc to one OS - it's easy and convenient to leave any OS except iOS; so why would you start there?

What a load of crap.

I'd love for you to elaborate on your drivel.

He's fanatically anti-Android, here's a post from the Fire thread, "You mean the 7 inch Amazon Tablet.

No-one is going to buy that tablet with the impression that it's an Android Tablet. No-one. "
Really?

I'm actually going to get a Galaxy Nexus, I don't understand how you can determine I'm a fanatical Android basher based off of that one post.

Every song etc I bought in iTunes seemed awfully insistent on staying there. In no other system have I had to play tricks to get access to my own files on another OS.

That was the end for me and anything Apple - if they've changed it now, good for them, that's great until Apple decides to change it again.

Edit - BTW you ignored the first two things I said, which is great because they were more important.

Unless you're referring to the days when iTunes had DRM, I have no clue what you're talking about; it's just as easy to port songs to other devices/programs as it is with anything else you do..no "tricks" required.

Not too mention you aren't forced to buy music on iTunes just like you aren't forced to buy music on Zune. The whole "omg youre gonna get trapped in the ios ecosystem" fear-mongering is just so dumb.

BTW - You're other two points were solid.

So they did get rid of that, well that's something😉

I entirely quit Apple, and that was a big part of the reason. It wasn't a matter of being 'forced' to buy on iTunes, it was being forced to remember not to buy from iTunes. Meanwhile I was able to get everything I wanted from other brands, for less money, and zero headaches.

I won't go as far as to say that Apple lost a customer for life in me; but I've never seriously considered buying from them again; they really would need a killer feature to get me to buy, and I haven't seen it yet.

all phones pull you into their system, iOS is no worse than Android or WM7. I bought a ton of apps on my iPhone and was screwed when I bought my EVO. I've bought a good number of android apps, I'll get a WM7 next year. And guess what? the cycle will start all over. IMHO the only reason leaving the iOS ecosystem was hard for me was the quality of the apps were substantially higher.

The only thing trapping you to the iOS ecosystem at this point is just the realization that you're not going to be getting the same high quality app/game selection on any other platform.

Geeze you android fanatics can't understand this can you or are somehow hurt to admit Apple does a good job on support? Please stop making us normal Android fans embarrassed to be associated with you.

You have TWO choices. Which is better?

1. Support
2. No support

No third magical choice. Just two choices. 1 or 2.

That's the whole point. Not whether it has x or y feature already or which phone is better. Just simply pick 1 or 2.

Guess you should also read what Andriods fans said way back when OS4 not supported on the iPhone 2...

What's funny to me is people are convinced they'll die without some update they don't even know what benefit it adds.

I guess updates are a lot more of a big deal if you're waiting for years to get "200 new features" many of which just bring you up to par with what other smartphones have had for years.

Can people actually name a crucial feature they are missing that they need ICS right this instant for? In fact, do most people even know for sure what ICS actually adds?

I'd find it just as silly to see iPhone owners whining about not having iOS 6 right this instant, when they don't even know what the heck it will do for their device.

There must be something ICS adds, but I'm not dying waiting for it- heck, I don't even know what these mystery features I've been missing out on are.

Now sure, if a new phone comes out and it has ICS on it, I probably won't complain- I'll probably like that it does some things differently and looks a little different. But is there some "Holy cow! How did I live without this?" features it adds that I have to be whining for it to be on my current Droid X? If so- what?

ICS does add nice features like folders, unified social network contacts, facial unlock, and more.

But more importantly it's an almost complete design upheaval of current Android, complete with a much better font.

Thanks. I'm honestly not trying to deride any of this- I'm sure it's all very cool and I'll love having it on my next phone.

But none of it is anything I'm chomping at the bit for today on my current phone. In fact- as near as I can tell, I have all of this already except the "facial unlock" (honestly don't care) and "design upheaval of current Android". The 'much better font' I have since I rooted my phone. (Okay, granted, most people don't root their phones and change things like the fonts- but it IS possible and I don't have to wait for ICS to do it.)

Besides the new features that Apple releases in each update, there are the security updates that it includes in those iOS updates. So you do miss out on those if your hardware isn't supported.

Just because you aren't hungry for the features a new version provides doesn't mean other people can't be.

Personally, I'm very happy this Galaxy Nexus I'm about to purchase is running ICS; I doubt if it was running Gingerbead I'd be buying it.

A new phone -especially a model that's not even out yet- is one thing.

My point is anyone whining they don't have ICS on their current year old phone so it can have WTF 'facial unlock' or whatever else they likely never even heard of is what I find funny.
