MortPlayer is awesome if you're folder-based. Otherwise, buy PowerAmp.

Thanks for the tip! I like the aesthetics of Apollo more but I've been looking for a folder-based music player and audiobook program.

No Composer field support = useless for classical listeners.

no thats a personal pref, i listen to classical and dont give a crap who the composer is. actually i clear the composer field with mp3tag for everything, and just use the artist tag

+1 for Apollo, I just started using it and I'm liking it a lot. I don't really mind the google music app either but I haven't used it that much. I'm gonna have to check out ubermusic, I liked the zune music app a lot.

Player Pro does everything PowerAmp does but does it better imho.

It seems to have a better interface, but my priority is sound quality and a good EQ and in that aspect PowerAmp trounces the pants off of Player Pro from what I've seen. Everybody's ears are different and everybody needs/wants to EQ things differently, but for the punchy low end I want it's the best I've tried.

All of this is possible with one setting though... Direct Volume Control. I'm not sure if other players have it, but in PowerAmp you have to go to settings>audio>advanced tweaks and toggle DVC on. With this off it sounds like just another generic phone player that can't reach the lows I want. If you haven't tried PowerAmp with DVC then you haven't tried PowerAmp.

Player Pro is my favorite. Mostly because of the feature that lets my navigate between tracks using the volume buttons (and still controlling volume with longer holds). Not sure why I haven't seen this feature in other music players.

The only thing I don't like about the default/android player (the one that comes with Android 2.2/Froyo, anyway) is that it doesn't support FLAC. Speaking of, is there any way to add FLAC support just to the default Android player?

Apollo force closes when I try to play a song on GNex Jelly Bean 4.1.1. I'm sure it will be updated for Jelly Bean real soon. I noticed most media player apps force close or doesn't work in Jelly Bean. Dice Player still doesn't work with Jelly Bean. :(

I use Volume+ for my EQ'ing. I found both Poweramp's & Playerpro's built in offerings to be lacking.

Wait did you have to enable this? On mine it doesn't do this, I looked at the setting and see nothing about it, but maybe I'm just blind.

Yeah, but PowerAMP is payware, and the widgets suck.

Since I posted this, I actually tried PowerAMP for a decent amount of time. I still don't use the widgets, but I love everything else about the player. I paid for it. Highly recommend it.
