and the apps still suck :(

no game that's really impressive yet. just give us angry birds or something jeez...

Edit: Yes I am an Android user. I'm looking for a fucking Facebook app that brings about chat or lets me delete wall posts. This is pathetic. Even the Facebook app that came out day 1 of iPhone OS 2.0 was better.... sigh

Why so much endless trolling in GG&P? It's like a fucking Vipers nest lately.

Its sick but completely endorsed by AnandTech.

On topic:

One billion is a lot. But I wonder if they are unique downloads? I know that I have downloaded most apps at least 10 times each. Would one of those count as one or ten?

Do you do anything here, other than troll? Just go away.

Android Market is still very lacking? I mean honestly. Look at IM apps. No comparison. Look at Facebook and Twitter. Ok Twitter apps are decent. Facebook? Nope.

Games? Yeah. No comparison. Even something as simple as Tap Tap Revenge or Flight Control... and some others and those were all out in the summer of 2008 when the OS 2.0 came out are of higher caliber than today's Android games... Sigh.

You.Are.A.Troll.

You're just unwilling to admit that the apps suck. I've long sold my iPod touch and 3GS. So yeah, the apps I used are over a year old. They may be light years better today. Or they may be the same. But so far Android apps haven't been able to overtake the iPhone versions yet. So what?

I'm not saying there AREN'T any great apps. There's just a few. For example, maybe IM+ users should realize that WinMo and S60 users have been using that same interface since 2007 or something... It's outdated. They just ported it to Android in a halfass manner. Meanwhile the iPhone one gets upgrades day after day... Sigh.

Why would I engage someone who poisons threads with stupidity and vitriol? You're not adding anything to the discussion, asshat, you're just threadcrapping.

Jesus, just look at Wart, a major iPhone fanboy, who managed to add to the discussion and not just shit on the platform that he doesn't use. Be more like that.

hmm, thanks for the compliment :hmm:

lol

In Delirium's defense, it is not a trollish thing to maintain that the apps on one platform are inferior to those on another. I think his first post may have been overly blunt and a little baited, but just like people can dismiss most iOS apps as 'fart apps,' it is legit for someone to say that Android lacks the complex and graphically impressive games found on iOS...or even WebOS if you consider the NFS game it had. That isn't to say that argument is correct, but I don't think putting it out there makes one a troll...

Doesn't matter. You're just here to bash me as a troll even as I continue to add more and more examples about apps sucking.

I'm throwing out actual app names and demonstrating what features they're lacking. You're right, if all I post is trolling comments, you don't have to respond. If I post facts and show examples of apps I think are bad, you don't have to respond either. You don't have to respond to anything at all, but at least I have a case as to why I feel Android apps are lacking.

Just rewind for a minute. Remember when Apple announced it had 100,000 apps? Now how were the quality of apps back then compared to Android's now 100k apps.

I like to go back to the first 6 months of OS 2 in a lot examples because to me iPhone Apps already rocked back then. Apps then were just as good if not better than many Android apps today.

Blame it on whatever it is. Market dynamics, developers who don't spend enough time on Android apps, bad APIs, whatever it is... something's lacking about the Market apps.

I'm all for having a better pool of apps as an Android user, but until the landscape changes, I'm not going to lie to myself and pretend that I'm living in a garden when there's only a few nice flowers in a pool of cow manure.

I dont understand how its trolling if dlerium is telling the truth. The apps on the Android platform do suck.

Just curious since I'm one of those people who don't pay for Apps - what is it that you need your phone to "Do" with an "App" that sucks? I mean, I kind of wish I had an "App" that would voice control the whole phone, but I don't think that's possible.

I guess. There are plenty of functional apps for my android that work as advertised.

Apple does have a lead in the app market, but it is shrinking pretty quickly.

I've paid for several apps, most require root access, such as SetCPU and CacheMate. I have no problem with paying for apps that are worth it, and I've donated to several developers of free apps to support their work.

Google has disputed the 100K number though, placing it closer to 70K. But, at the rate its growing 100K isn't too far off. Explosive growth, an app for everything. :)

I'd like an IM app that didn't fail all the time like Meebo. I use meebo at work. The meebo account links my two AIM accounts and MSN account.

When I sign on the meebo account it seems to only sign on my AIM account. Not sure about the MSN because I don't have it auto-sign in. But either way I can't see both IM accounts' worth of buddies.

So I try to sign on individual accounts sometime. It signs on but my buddy list doesn't load. You can give me crap about AT&T's network sucking or whatever, but this was NEVER an issue on the iPhone who clearly has worse reception than my Milestone (GSM Droid).

I outlined Facebook the other day. I think I commented something I didn't want to comment or I double commented. Wanted to delete. I had to load facebook on my web browser. Touch.facebook.com wasn't enough. I had to switch to the full desktop version on my phone, and AJAX obviously isn't the smoothest thing on a mobile device. I'd like a Facebook app that at least is on the same level as the iPhone one. I don't mind differences. Just make sure it's not like a DOS 6.3 versus Windows 7 comparison....

Games? That's what I used to do all day on my iPod touch. There's ridiculous amounts of games and all of them I feel are very high quality. Even the free ones. I see a lot of basic games like checkers, sudoku and labyrinth on Android, but anything more advanced seems meh. The racing games are nothing like Real Racing. You could claim that Real Racing took til OS 3.0 (1 year) to come out, but the Android Market has been around for more than that. Obviously this isn't the only racer out there as there are other high quality ones. Even basic catchy games like Angry Birds, Plants v Zombies, Flight Control, Tap Tap Revenge, etc are all very interesting to see on the iPhone.

Hell I remember people highly anticipating the Lemonade Tycoon port onto iPhone. I played this in 2003 on my Pocket PC. Odd we don't get ANYTHING on Android... I guess there's Doodlejump.

Bottom line is with the iPhone and iPod Touch, I felt like I was always surfing the iTunes market for something new. I was always reading touch Arcade, seeing the next game. Browsing forums to find out if IM+ was better than Beejive for push notifications... etc. I feel like I have no incentive to really do this on Android. I barely browse for stuff. I feel limited because unless I apply the Apps2SD hack, I'm stuck with limited space on my phone. I rarely look for games and each time I do it's pretty much a letdown. nothing worth buying really on this platform.

It's just flat out night and day difference, and if we had a solid developer force here on Android I'm sure it would be different....

Have you tried ebuddy, it works solidly for me.
How limited do you honestly feel? Why does that make you feel differently? I have over 76 apps with 150MB left. Honestly, you are predetermined to hate it from what you say about it.
You also realize, newer Android devices now have gig's of space for apps?

You spend all day playing games? WTF? Maybe some phones weren't designed to dick around all day as their primary purpose. Maybe iPhones are great at only socializing, so other iPhone guys can get together and talk about the iPhone.

It's obvious dlerium uses his phone like a toy. That's fine, but that's not what everyone is looking for. If you are, go iPhone - he's right, the games and time wasting apps are a lot better.

As far as Android not having any good apps? Come on. Here is just a partial list of my favorites, many of which are not available on iOS:

Nesoid
Swype (IMHO, the best app for any phone, considering how much I use it)
Wifi Tether
Titanium Backup
ROM Manager
Yelp
Maps/Navigation
DC Metro Info (very specific to the area, but if you commute here, it helps)
NY Times
Handcent
Gmail

Some of the above, like Yelp and Nav are made even better with the handlers in the OS. Yelp can be the default handler for a URL to yelp.com, rather than the browser, and an address can be brought up in Nav rather than as a web search or just a pushpin in Google Maps.

But yeah, if all you do is play games, update your facebook status, and tweet inane things that no one cares about - Android might not be for you. I personally have no idea how well those things do or don't work on Android because I don't use them.

What I would love though is an app like Rowmote for Android.
