So we don't really have an area for android games and this was the most popular game forum so I choose this one.

I'm kind of a snob when it comes to handheld gaming. I much prefer the console experience rather then the current state of mobile gaming. To this date, most of my gaming on my phone has actually been from running a final fantasy game on a PS1 emulator. I disliked the previous chaos rings cause of its one and two character fight system. IMO Square was doing a better job doing portable gaming with FF7 crisis core and type 0, but I hated the real time combat.

So I was thrilled to see chaos ring 3 bring the 3 character turn based combat with the quest/mission style combat of crisis core and type 0, with the graphic style of FF10 (and character design of kingdom hearts. -_- )

I've only played a couple hours of it, and the single player story is actually more of a "Lets all get stronger doing missions so we can complete our simplistic and material goals", at least for now, but it features plenty of cut scenes and dialogue expected from modern day FF. However it offers the traditional deep turn based combat I love in final fantasy with a mission system that makes it easier to play on the go. The game even goes so far that you can start the game in story mode with quest, or a battle arena mode for an even quicker game. From what I have experienced, your magic is obtained by what ever card you are holding and the cards are what level up, and while your character load
outs are different between the two modes the cards share their levels between them and cards obtained in one will be available in the other.

The old final fantasy remakes weren't horrible but I think this is probably the best thing their mobile team has put out yet. The game doesn't have any IAPs or energy system, although there are two types of currencies with one that directly ties into purchasing keys which unlock "uber loot" chest that you come across, and this specific currency is obtained by doing quest so it is a directly a time sink as the game wants you to do a lot of the easy low ranking quest it gives.

I played a bit of Omega and it was ok. I saw this was coming and may check it out once it drops in price.

Yeah, I'll probably just wait for the next sale and pick it up then. I actually liked the first Chaos Rings game... convoluted, weird story included. :p
