China is the world's largest mobile market, and Samsung will handily dominate every segment of that market (from budget to bleeding-edge).

Also, as multiple sources have already pointed out, most of the products facing an injunction are either not sold in the USA or are being phased out; the rest will have software workarounds implemented in short order.

That is assuming, of course, the verdict holds up in appeals.

it's because China uses a different system. Like TD-HSDPA or something. It's not the standard 2100 UMTS you see in the rest of Asia and Europe. As a result iPhone penetration was low to begin with. China didn't officially have the iPhone for a long time.

You can contrast this with other places like Taiwan. While Taiwan didn't get the iPhone till the 3GS or something like that, it didn't stop anyone from importing them and using them unlocked because of the ubiquity of the 2100 UMTS network.

Android also dominates Europe as well:

According to the report, over a 12 month period, Spain had the highest percentage of Android smartphone consumers at 84.1% of market share. Italy has the lowest Android market share at 49.6%. As it pertains to market share, the other surveyed European countries fell in-between Spain and Italy: Germany – 68.5%; France - 58.8%; and Great Britain – 57.2%.

There are some really crappy, budget Chinese handsets too. They're definitely catering to the lowest common denominator, but building market share and locking people into the platform.

I've said it before, the longer you stay with a given mobile platform the tighter you are tied to it. You become accustomed to the UI, build a collection of apps and media, etc.

There is also the issue of cost. There are a bazillion Chinese feature phones with Android on them. There are no iOS feature phones at all.

China is getting better at making android devices. See Huawei and ZTE.

Also the Ainol brand of tablets are looking pretty good and they cost a fraction of even the Nexus 7 tablet price.

I was considering getting the Ainol Fire (say that out loud) until I saw the comments about the Aurora II, and the the translated preview comments about the Fire (from a moderator at the Ainol forums no less).

Basically, the hardware is OK (aside from the lack of a decent battery in the Aurora II), but the software leaves something to be desired. The reason the Aurora II is acceptable is because of 3rd party ROMs, but that's after months of 3rd party hackery, and even then there are significant software issues, not the least of which is that there is no Jelly Bean driver for the GPU.

So, I just got the Nexus 7 instead. Still had to root it though, for Stickmount.

I've never heard of that brand until now. Is that really pronounced how I just read it in my head??

My guess is that it's probably correctly pronounced "eye-nol" but nonetheless every English speaker I've come across pronounces it the same way you do. D:

Yup, Huawei and ZTE's current generation devices have been pretty good and they will only keep getting better.

Well Android has been taking market share from Nokia and Blackberry, IOS actually increased market share a bit according to the article.

Same with the PC market, eventually the market will probably be dominated by big 2, Android taking share from high to low end. China especially will come up with bunch of cheap phones and tablet to get the low end market. Apple will focus on its niche, the high end market. Android killing IOS? Not likely, just like MS has been dominating PC, but still can't get rid of Mac OSX. Apple will continue with it's small market but exclusive to Apple Hardware and loyal and upper income customers and make tons of money. The rest will do big volume, low margin business. Not that different from the PC market right now.
