Android DNS http://servername settings?

Hi guys,

I have a question regarding DNS settings on Android smart phones. At work, we make a web based system for managing documents. This system works fine in Chrome on a computer, but it would be neat if it could work on a phone as well. The system is hosted on the intranet on IIS on a Win2K8R2 box. Using http://servername and http://servername.domainname both work fine on a PC.
Cue the phone. Here, logging on to the company wi-fi, I can reach the site using http://servername.domainname but not http://servername
Problem is, the web app constructs link based on http://servername, so you contantly have to edit the links on the phone.
We can edit the web app, of course, but it would be nice to fit it nevertheless.

What do I have to do to fix this? I suspect I have to do something in the phone's DNS settings, but I do not know what.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy S3.

Rooting is not good. If I can get it to work, we will probably invite customers to test, and requiring them to root their phones is a no-go.

It does indeed sound like this is a general Android bug. Quite amazing that this have not been fixed, really.

I will modify the app instead.
