Did somebody say app revenue? http://bgr.com/2013/08/12/google-play-app-revenue-growth-analysis/

When will Apple be overtaken?

I remember several years ago when Apple dominated app revenue %, there were numerous taunts of "that's because all the best Android apps are free" and "that's because Apple users are dumb for paying for apps". And there was the arguments from the other camp of "that's because Apple users are richer than Android users" and "that's because paid apps are actually higher quality". Something along those lines.

It's all really funny and I wonder how stupid the arguments we have today will look in the future.

Prove it.

If anything at all, PC gaming is the one that's increasing while console gaming is currently undergoing a period of stagnation and could even be in for a possible decline in the coming years.

Really? I don't know about that. 10 years ago we had PC-only games, or they were ported over to consoles. Today most games are console ports. Dice even turned the whole PC platform for BF3 into a marketing tactic. "PC-first"

lol.... people who first scream it's not about revenue and you can't compare the models because Android = free and iOS = Premium, but now it's all about profits with Android? sigh. hypocrites.

And despite all of that, PC gaming sales is still increasing while console gaming is the one in stagnation.

Two of your articles use the same source about nVidia. Of course its a forward looking presentation--its a marketing presentation. How many Intel presentations will you see showing PC sales declining while being optimistic about desktop CPU sales? They'll spin it some way to show a business opportunity. Just look at Apple's next keynote. You think they're going to talk about how their revenue advantage over Android has shrunk? Or marketshare?

Your other sources cite mobile gaming. I agree mobile gaming is on the rise, and there's a lot more people into casual gaming even if it means Farmville at their computer.

What I'm saying is that I'm finding fewer and fewer people who are all obsessed over games like Counter Strike and Starcraft or even their modern replacements like we saw 10 years ago. And sure, it's anecdotal what I'm saying, but look at the GPU reviews 10 years ago. A bunch of those games that they used to bench on were PC only platforms. Now we're looking at a bunch of console ports. Maybe you're right, the gaming industry is growing, but the 3D games, and what we consider traditional PC gaming? Barely. How much more growth is the gaming industry due to mobile growth? How much of PC gaming is due to the continued proliferation of PCs worldwide?

They are bringing up profits because of the articles Cheezy posted.

There's always been the risk that this will be the last console generation because people don't want to shell out $60 for a title when they can play F2P games on their tablet. But that would also mean the end of the "hardcore pc game" as well.

You must not read the tech and gaming news. World of Tanks hits 60 million registered players

Just a couple of days ago it was announced that Chivalry: Medieval Warfare sales passed 1.2 million, not bad for what started out as a free gaming mod.

Star Citizen has already raised 16 million. Not bad for a fan funded project that won't be finished until 2015.

Until 2012, Steam sales were doubling every year for 7 straight years. How many other businesses have that kind of growth?

Have you heard of a little game called Minecraft? It's sold over 20 million copies, 11 million on the PC.

How did you miss all of that?

I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, but none of that proves the PC gaming industry is growing. Those are raw numbers. Great, big numbers sound cool and all but it really doesn't give us a description of the state of the industry. Steam sales rising could just mean that Steam is becoming the preferred method of distribution. It's like saying iTunes rising in the early 2000s means the music industry is growing. I could use a similar counter argument and point to CD sales declining and say the industry is shrinking. And your WoT article... it even says that 60 million registered does not equal to 60 million active users. It's kinda like when Google+ touted how many users they had, but we all know that there's a bunch of idle users there compared to Facebook where I'd argue not only has a larger userbase, but far more daily social activity going on there.

Look at how many old skool games are on there. Classics.

Yes, because they've moved onto Skyrim, Minecraft or MMO's. Starcraft is still massive in certain SE Asian countries. Similarly, the indie gaming movement is strongest on PC's. Point being, gaming on PC's has broadened from the AAA games "everyone" used to play.

In other words, if you're judging PC gaming by what was popular 10 years ago, you're doing it wrong.

Anyhow, back on topic - why does anyone care about the relative popularity of Android or iOS? Both are large enough to support a thriving ecosystem. Pick whichever one meets your needs and STFU.
