It someone was to take their time and develop an App for thir iPhone for this - yes it would. Its just as easy to develop on the iPhone as Android.

that's why I put the smiley face. I was trying to make it obvious that I was picking on the Apple crew.

Except that its obvious that you are in nearly all of your other posts.

Too much spinning in the video... I think I have motion sickness. :)

The iPhone does have an app for controlling an R/C helicopter though - with a video downlink. :)

On a vaguely related note, there's this long blog about a guy near me doing a high altitude balloon launch with a camera. He plans to use a iPhone to track it but then runs into one of the AT&T/Apple limitations and has to switch to an Android G1. I thought it was amusing.

Miraculously we found cell service there as well, however after much frustration we learned that the OpenStreetMap application I was banking on for map data can only download the map image data on a WiFi connection – and god only knew where the nearest broadband Internet connection was at that point. [snip] In a stroke of luck, I was carrying my “backup phone”, an Android-based G1. I searched for “GPS” and found a waypoint-finder application that supported decimal-based latitude and longitude input.

It's a long blog but it's an interesting read. If you skip the story, at least click the video. The balloon burst at timemark 2:45 from 20 miles up (100,000 ft) is pretty cool. http://vimeo.com/11907761

nice and all but why use a phone when I could use a $10 microcontroller?

Edit: Did Android actually control the rocket or did they just use a Nexus One to video tape the flight?
(The link and source article isn't clear)

Now that is something that an android phone cannot do, at least not any current models. Unless I am mistaken, they don't have accelerometers.

Er, Android has accelerometers but no gyros. I don't have flash here so I can't see the video to know how it worked.

Taking seriously what was obviously a tongue-in-cheek poke at Apple users (happy face and all!) = massive fail.

well my complaint is that the thread about Android not being a polished OS got locked because it was "trolling." Shrug.

I know the Android fans are in huge force here, but honestly it's not like the only smartphone out there. Then again with a lack of WinMo phones in the US and no presence of Symbian, what do you expect? :D

Yea that was wierd, I skimmed the post but it seemed like there was were some legitimate questions beyond the trollish title. Ah well...

I work with all kinds of mobile devices, each has their strengths and drawbacks. I have yet to come across one that is "perfect" :)

geez guys....should I put it in large font that I was kidding? I'm an Android fanboi that sticks up for Apple products.

What good is an old fashioned rivalry if you can't poke fun at the other side?

You obviously don't seem to recognize the double standard that is so readily apparent in this sub-forum.
