Android Box Doesn't Work

I have an Android box that's about 3-4 years old. I have XBMC with two add-ons Project Free Tv and 1Channel. Whenever I try to use them to watch a tv show or movie it doesn't work and says something like not loading/nothing found or some kind of error. I don't stream much so not sure how old they are or if they are outdated. I would like to fix the box so I can start watching movies/tv shows and would prefer not to have to buy a new box.

Would I have to install Kodi and put on new-addons for content? If so how would I do this?

I would wipe the current XBMC version you are using and re-install the latest version of Kodi. You would then need to re-install any new addons you wish to use. I use Libre Elec on my raspberry pi's.

Thank you. I checked my box and it has Android 4.2.2 but I can't find any way to update it to Android 5.0 which is required for Kodi. I checked the settings and there doesn't seem to be any way to update the system.

I don't think you want to update, you need to re-install a new OS. I don't know what type of box u have but doing a re-set or wipe of the system and installing a fresh OS like Libre Elec or a newer version of Android is your answer.

The box is a MXII. I'm really not too experienced in this area. I searched around and found some youtube videos on how to do it ,but apparently you have to be very careful or you can actually break the device?
