I haven't heard much about Android Auto, but perhaps that is all about to change. I've long thought Android tablets in cars made lots of sense, and it's nice to see that we are getting there.

It is not 100% clear that Honda is using "Android Auto" as it is not explicitly mentioned, but it would make sense. Perhaps a derivative of it in some form.

I'm more interested in what Tesla had to say. From the CBC article linked above
Tesla Motors founder Elon Musk started a flurry of speculation on Wednesday after saying it is "about time to unveil the D and something else", with an accompanying photo mentioning the upcoming date of Oct. 9.

...

Musk added more fuel to the speculative fire later in the day when he tweeted that the wording of his original tweet was unintentional, but adding "Glad I didn't mention the other letter."

So, could be that "the other letter" is 'P' - for the pervy joke that everyone would have made if he was "about to unveil the D P", but perhaps what he meant to say was 'L' - aka Android Auto running Android L. Also "D L" is a thing for some reason.

Pure speculation, for sure. But Oct 9 lines up nicely with rumours about Nexus devices and L. Who knows?!

Edit: More fuel for the fire:

we don’t expect Android Auto in any cars until 2015.

2015 calendar year or 2015 automotive model year? hmm... might be soon!

They need to have proper offline maps. You cant rely on cellular coverage while driving.
