Android App questions

So I just got a Moto Droid and I'm kinda new to the whole app store and what good apps I should be looking for.

I'm trying to find an app that can playback video other than the youtube player. Just a simple app similar to the music player that comes on the Droid but for videos.

Also is there anywhere to get videos that are properly formatted? or would I have to use my PC and then transfer the files to the SD card.

Another question: Does anyone know of a way, or an App that I can use to stop the damn Corporate Calendar and a few other apps from constantly running on their own? I don't use the Corporate Calendar at all but it loves to start up along with a few others for no reason. I have Taskiller that I use to shut them down, but it would be easier if they never started.

Vlc will be ported out to droid soon is what I am reading. That will be the video player to have
