Was there a reason given for why the Nexus 7 uses a phone-styled launcher rather than a tablet layout? Seems like a waste of space. I've always been partial to the tablet layout though, so I may be biased.

I'm guessing because of the size. I almost always use the tablet in portrait mode, except for videos.

Still haven't been offered the Jelly Bean update on my Nexus 7.
Maybe its a geographically phased roll out. ?

I have recently updated a lot of Google apps like Play, Earth, etc though.

I guess it's never bothered me because I don't keep apps on the home screen. But I do see how that could be annoying to others.

Hmm, I'll have to see how the rotation handles widgets.

32 gig nexus 7 is already in production according to C-net. But I don't use that many apps. I don't play too many games on mine... I can't see myself putting movies and music on mine.

Ota updated. Seems to have fixed the screen flickering and occasional black line issues for me.

So you don't do apps, games, movies or music... What exactly do you do with it?

Still no update here in Toronto. I deleted Ultimate Rotation Control in the meantime, and it's painful.

Any way to force the update?

I'm updating now by doing,

1. Go to Settings -> Apps -> All
2. Find Google Services Framework.
3. Tap on Force Stop.
4. Select Clear Data.
5. Head back to Settings, go to About, and check for a System Update.

Hmmm... I tried that but I'm still on 4.1.1. It still says:

Your system is up to date.

Last checked for update at 2:35pm.

I received my update yesterday. It probably was a coincidence, but I powered mine off and back on again.

This usually works to get the OTA update, but every time I do this most of my push notifications stop working, so I don't do it anymore.

Doing that trick, it took me about two days until I got Jelly Bean so it's not guaranteed to work right away.

I've tried a few ROM's but can't quite find the right one. I'm looking for a takju ROM preferably with franco's kernel, even 4.1.1 is fine, with a volume, lockscreen and a battery % mod, theme friendly if possible.

Crap. I thought this release allowed for adobe flash player 11. What is the latest on adobe flash player? Google play says not support app past 4.x android devices. Ugh!

Success!

I tried this a few times, but as mentioned earlier it didn't work. However, I read online it is pretty hit and miss, but dong it repeatedly may make it work. Indeed it did. I tried it this am about five times in a row and it finally worked.

It a pleasure to have native home screen rotation. Rotation control remains in the notification bar too.

I got 4.1.2 on my phone last night.

Being able to expand notifications with 1 finger is much much better. Using 2 fingers was awkward. Although you still need 2 fingers to minimise them. Google now loads faster and so do some apps. Not as fast as SGS3 on CM10, but it's a nice improvement.

Maybe it's just the placebo effect though :p
