Of course a future Nexus tablet is in the works. That doesn't really tell us when though. Or it could be for Nexus phones.

BTW, Google has FINALLY seen the light:

In terms of new features, there are not all that many. However, the update does finally bring landscape mode to the Google Nexus 7 enabling users to use the device horizontally, a feature previously unavailable on the Android tablet. Google also says that the update brings a handful of bug fixes and stability improvements.

Not allowing landscape mode was an extremely stupid decision on Google's part. Ultimate Rotation Control, an app to allow rotation to landscape, was the first app I paid for IIRC. I also recently purchased Nova Launcher, but decided I don't like it. Adding in this rotation feature means a whole lot less people are going to be buying Nova Launcher or Ultimate Rotation Control.

Droid Life and Android Police reported that it'd be rolling out to the Nexus 7s shortly, but I haven't gotten it yet.

I just put it on mine manually last night, I don't notice a huge difference anywhere, the landscape home screen is pretty nice, even the lockscreen rotates which is pretty cool. I also noticed maps runs a lot better after this update, that's the only place I really noticed the performance improvements they mentioned.

I decided to root mine yesterday. Things didn't go as planned and wound up bricking it as my rig doesn't like the tools for some reason or another. Took forever to get it back up and running!

Wound up flashing a 4.1.2 rom thru CWM to get it fully functional again. Did notice the homescreen rotation but was thinking it was added to the rom. I haven't noticed anything else being different so far. I'm using the Nova launcher currently tho as I bought it during the .25 sale and I like having more options to tweak.

Hmmm... I guess I should uninstall Ultimate Rotation Control soon, if the update is coming imminently. I already uninstalled Nova Launcher a while ago.

Um, unless you're talking specifically about having the home screen be landscape, you can definitely do landscape for everything else with a N7. No apps or anything else required.

i felt like this should've been a no brainer feature to be implemented from the beginning of time.

i think the latter is easier to deal with as there are 3rd party launchers that i run to immediately anyway.

Looks pretty minor upgrade. Except for....

I believe this is also pretty minor. It sounds like some of the newer Nexus 7 tablets have a new power management chip and this update is needed for them, but are otherwise the same.

Yeah, which is why it's uber moronic in 4.1.1. You'll be in landscape mode in XYZ app but as soon as you go to the home screen you're forced into portrait. It makes no sense whatsoever.

Uhh I don't know if that means new Nexus tablet as most people would think of it. IT means a new variant of the Nexus 7 may be introduced, but I bet it's one of those silent under the hood changes with a new power management chip. Like the iPad 2 on 32nm as opposed to 45nm. It's a transparent change to the consumer.

Nothing of this article suggests a new 10" or a brand new model coming out or anything. It's people misinterpreting words like these that causes idiotic rumors to get released.

There are rumors of a 32 GB model. In fact, there is already a 32 GB unit in the wild.

But like I said, it could be a Nexus phone, which is coming out in a few weeks.

The 4.1.2 factory images are located here:

https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

Note that 4.1.2 is not just for the Nexus 7, but also for the Galaxy Nexus.

There are also 4.1.2 binaries available for several other Nexus devices and the Motorola Xoom.

Can root be reestablished easily after this update? Sorry for the noob question, I just upgraded to GNex after 30 months on Gingerbread.

I guess it's never bothered me because I don't keep apps on the home screen. But I do see how that could be annoying to others.

Hmm, I'll have to see how the rotation handles widgets.
