Android 4.0 7" Tablet Advice Needed

I was the recent owner of an AGPtek TP10AYA Android Tablet. I am not sure of the technical specifications, but here's the Rakuten.com link (http://bit.ly/WizGwU). It was a 7" entry-level model with a capacitive screen, in fact I picked it up in here for only $50. (While it's a cheapie, it was NOT one of those with a resistive screen, no no no!)

Anyway, as immature as it probably is, I don't have a very tolerant disposition towards tablets, phones or PCs that lock-up or crash a lot, and my AGPtek met the business end of my hardwood floor on purpose last night when it kept locking up while I was using the Tubemate App & Opera Mini on it. It locked up 3 times in barely a 10 minute period, an absolute guaranteed way to spike my blood pressure into the ionosphere. So I'm looking for a replacement.

Here is what I'm looking for:

(1) Even though it gets good reviews, I absolutely DO NOT want a Nexus 7 because it doesn't have a microSD slot, and I use the microSD slot a LOT. The same goes for the Amazon Kindle Fire, even though I read Kindle books pretty regularly.

(2) The more "plain vanilla" the OS is, the better. I want at least ICS, I don't need Jellybean etc but I sure won't complain if it has it. I don't tend to "root" but I do backup apps as .apk files and turn-off the lock that prevents "side-loading" so I can just tap the APK files and go with it for instillation.

(3) I tend to play .mp4 video clips on it, and I'd like enough speaker volume to actually hear it (I know often-times using earbuds is considerate to others, but with the AGPtek I HAD to use earbuds to hear it any at all even at home in a quiet room at times)

(4) The screen needs to be responsive. The last one often-times for some reason didn't register the first tap, especially when keyboarding in an O for some reason, I ALWAYS had to hit it 2 or even 3 times before it finally figured out what I was doing.

(5) $100 or less would be nice, although I could be talked into the $150 range if it makes a big difference quality and performance-wise

(6) I don't do much hard-gore gaming other than Angry Birds on Bejeweled on rare occasion, I just need it to have enough performance that Tubemate, which doesn't seem to be that resource-hungry of a program, and Opera Mini, Dolphin Mini and Firefox etc don't make it crash. (I was in the habit of clearing out memory space with an app, not "Advanced Task Killer," to try & prevent crashes.)

(7) I don't need GPS but I won't complain if it has it.

(8) I got along okay with the AGPtek's battery life, which would read low within 3 hours or so, but I'd prefer longer

(9) I also use "Perfect Viewer" for showing off photos I've taken (I'm into photography as a hobby) and the AGPtek did tend to render photos in a rather "washed out" way, so I'd like a bit better rendering, but I don't require "retina" resolution or whatever

(10) Wi-Fi only or 3G--the model I had was Wi-Fi only unless you attached a "dongle" device, I never bothered, but obviously I'd prefer a 3G model over a Wi-Fi only model, all else being equal.

I'm not familiar with what's out there in terms of what the specs are, and I can't seem to find a good site dealing with Android tablets with forums where people reply within the current month. I do know that I want a 7", not a 10", and that there are models like the Galaxy Tab and models by Asus & Acer etc, those could be ones that work for me depending on their specs; I'm familiar with the brand-name anyway. I'm just not familiar with the screen resolutions or CPU/memory type and so forth enough to know what suitable specs would be. I know enough to know to stay the heck away from resistive screens and I don't want a model that doesn't have a microSD slot (otherwise I'd just get the Nexus 7 because the reviews on it are good everywhere).

The ASUS MeMO Pad has been announced but AFAIK not yet available. Here are the expected specs

$150 MSRP
micro SDHC slot
1GHz single core CPU with 1GB RAM
webcam, WiFi
7" 1024x600 LCD
Android 4.1

Looks like it could come close to what you are looking for, as long as it doesn't end up a crappy product.

I, too, would have been interested in a Nexus 7 if it had a micro SDHC slot. FWIW I have never owned a tablet (but do have an Android 4.0 phone). I would consider owning one, but it can't be crappy yet has to be cheap. Why? Because it would be a toy for me. I won't pay $500 for a toy. $150-200? Maybe, but I would like micro SDHC, dual core CPU, modern Android, reasonable 7"-ish screen. Maybe some day... Black Friday 2013? :awe:

I saw that on Yahoo. Personally, price is not enough for me. I have a 7 inch tablet and would never buy another--period--no matter how cheap it is. Ditto anything running android except maybe a smartphone.

I am willing to accept the limitations of Android on a small device like a phone, but on a tablet, I want true windows. (or maybe IoS. It has to be better than android.)

You probably bought a cheap tablet with an older version of android that was never intended for tablets. Saying it "has to be better than android" really isn't fair, and the implication isn't really true.
