Android 1.6 style phone app in Android 2.3.3 Cyanomod

Is this possible?

I mean in Android 1.6 phone app when you type numbers it searches through numbers and contact name in the same time or you can just dial the number.
In 2.3.3 Cyanomod, the telephone can only dial a correct number and does not search through phone numbers or contact names.

I really hate 2.3.3 for this. Any phone app in 1.6 style? Help pls.

Yes it is possible. You need the original dialer .apk file and root access. The .apk needs to go into system/app folder to replace the one there now. Or just try "Go Dialer" on the marketplace.

You could also try a replacement dialer like Dialer One which can do that as well.

I was also going to suggest Dialer One. Ugly but it does exactly what you are asking.

As I mentioned Go Contacts will prob work also as it comes with it's own dialer. Sorry I originally called it Go Dialer but Go Dialer is just included in Go Contacts.

No, you shouldn't replace any of these two apps.

Go Contacts is not able to edit contacts so is calls contacts.apk for editing (this means, if you delete contacts.apk you won't be able to edit contacts any more).

Go Dialer is just a Dialer (some kind of a dialpad) while phone.apk establishes the connection the the SIM card.
