Andrew Luck staying in school... sorry Carolina

Or maybe, just maybe, something drives his life a little more than the almighty dollar? Principles maybe? Maybe he made a committment to mom/dad and is now standing by his word? How quick you are to judge and make the guy out to be some sort of idiot...

That might be, but with the kind of money he could pull down and at his age, he would have plenty of time to finish his degree and fulfill his committment to mom and dad. If he has a career-ending injury playing for Stanford, he is out of luck.

Is Dave Wannstedt even being mentioned? He got fired by Pitt and now he's being talked about for NFL jobs, weird...not that I think he's a bad coach, he's not.

Guys, I'm confused. Wannstedt is a terrible head coach. Why is anyone considering him? He was a heck of a defensive coordinator but a poor head coach.

He is a moron if the ONLY thing of value in life is money. Maybe to HIM there is value in completing his degree. You are a simple person with a simple mind if you think that everyone must strive for the same exact goals.

Ever hear of Robert Smith? He came out after his sophmore season, played eight years at RB and retired at the top of his game. He went back to school and got a degree in medicine. He has since started a foundation to assist children with cancer.

Passing up on an opportunity to maximize his earning potential when he can always return to school is foolish.

Good for him. Dude's awesome, his family already has lots of money, so who cares if he waits and enjoys the college life as the big man on campus for one more year; he will never, ever get a chance to do that again.

You're right, I am thinking of Bill Cowher. His wife died of cancer and he lives in NC and I know many teams want him.

The kid's dad was an NFL quarterback, ran the NFL league in Europe, has a huge voice in the US based NFL and has his fingers in all sort of athletic director, private corporation administration and even state political influence.

I'm thinking he can give his son the pro's/con's of the decision and probably float him a few bucks if he needs it.

Completely. I have to wonder who they will pick now, and who the Broncos will pick at #2

Patrick Peterson seems to be what everyone is dreaming of, him or Nick Farady? I personally think denver should move to around 10 for some extra picks (NE style) but I wouldn't be mad with Peterson.

Carlina is a different story, do they stay with Classen? I think they will and grab AJ Green to give him some weapons

Other QB options are

Locker
Mallet
Glabbert
Newton

inorder of tallent IMHO

Exactly.

This makes for an interesting theory. If his dad is as well connected as he sounds, then maybe Luck knows something about the CBA or potential lockout that keeps him in school? Maybe he knows there will be no season next year, and wants to play ball.

Things that make you go, hmmmmmm

The only thing I would add is that remember, had Leinart come out in 2005, he was going to be the #1 overall pick. He stayed in school and dropped to #10 (IIRC) the following year, costing himself millions of dollars.

The thought certainly crossed my mind that there's some stuff going on behind the scenes that his pops knows that the rest of us keyboard quarterbacks don't.

Peterson looks attractive for the Broncos since we are going to be without Champ, most likely. But it depends what happens with Perish Cox, who looked good until he got into the legal trouble.

I think the defensive line needs more work then the secondary, I want whoever the scouts say would be better out of:

Nick Fairley, DE/DT, Auburn
Marcell Dareus, DE/DT, Alabama
Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson

Which turned out to be good.

For the Cardinals at least 😛

If they aren't sold on Claussen they must draft the top QB available. Top WR's don't an awesome team make IMO. Brady Brees and Rivers do it with average talent at WR. Unless Carolina thinks these guys are a bunch of Alex Smith's, then that's another story.

Yeah, you'd have to be an idiot (see: Detroit) to draft a WR or RB in the top few picks.

The offensive line and QB are what makes an offense good. A good O-line will open up holes that just about any RB can run through, and buy the QB time to find just about any receiver. A top-15 pick is completely wasted on a RB or WR IMO.

RB's are only as good as the O-Line in front of them (See: Larry Johnson and Shaun Alexander)

O-lineman are thin in this draft and not worth the pick that early. Carlina will find it difficult to trade out of #1 without Luck so I see them grabbing Green the BPA.

I have no idea what Cox did, but I don't think he will get away with it. Fairley is the only player worth the #2 spot besides Peterson. With Champ potentially out the door and maybe 1 more year of Dawkins we need to make sure we have something in the secondary

I think this is key. He's probably already set for life financially and hell, he could even go be an architect for the rest of his life if be blows out a knee--not bad. It's not like he's getting his degree in "general studies" with a 2.0 GPA. I think it's a smart move. Carolina, with the owner's current approach, could very likely eat and destroy the next couple QBs they draft. I cannot think of a worse system to be thrown into at the moment, so it seems reasonable to wait a year and hope someone other than Carolina drafts him next year.

Yeh, Luck was a valedictorian and the son of a very established businessman in the very league that he's choosing not to enter at the moment.

We aren't talking about some ghetto rat like Pryor who has the mental faculties of an 8th grader who really should take the money and run while he can.

I really do think he knows what he's doing and probably has a very good reason for it that he may or may not publicly disclose.

People said the same thing about Sam Bradford staying. Gave up boat loads of money. He ended up getting 50 million.

My guess is with the rookie cap likely this year. It'll probably be that each year the rookie cap increases sorta like the NBA. #1 pick this year gets slightly more than #1 pick last year. same with #2, 3, etc.

If that's the case, Luck probably better off coming out next yera and potentially getting a bit more money.

The NFL will most likely place some sort of tier system for rookie contracts, but the major aspect is rookies not getting $50 million without NFL snaps. Any sort of rookie pay scale will mean a considerable drop in what he could make.
