You'd think someone sitting on a phone that is putting enough pressure on their thigh or butt to bend a phone, might realize before that happens that this is uncomfortable?

Isn't the HTC One also aluminum?
I think it's the aluminum combined with the thinness that's the problem here. The One has an curved design, similar to an arch in a bridge, giving it more rigidity.

It is. But the vast majority of the phone sans screen is aluminum. The impression I got is that the iPhone 6+ has just an aluminum frame on the edges.

Uh this is specifically in the front pocket. You sit down and it's going to put pressure all around the phone as the clothes conform to your leg.
With the phone this big, You don't even need skinny jeans. Even a pair of Levi's 501's original fit will do this.

if it's all aluminum back means that HTC knows how to use aluminum, Apple needs to hire their engineers.

Heh, the way HTC seems to bleed employees, they might just need some patience. :p

That said, I've had my One m7 since May 2013, always carrier it on my front pockets, and often wear relatively tight fitting jeans . . . m7 is still laser straight. :) Pretty sure I'd need a bench vice to actually bend it.

Well, someone is going to make a fortune selling reinforced cases.

"80% stiffier than the competition!"

i agree. the 2 bars in the back makes it look like a chinese clone

Yeah, they should have pulled an Asus and put the antennas behind the metal plate. Apple's aluminum is thin and cheap enough that the rf signals can get through it.

this is a non issue, watch the video & look at his hands when the phone starts to bend. They're trembling and his fingers are turning bright ass red. He's literally trying with all his might to bend it. I know he's probably not very strong, but he's exerting all the force he can to make this happen. If I exerted that kind of force on my phone it would probably break in half.

sounds like an IPHONE 6S will be in the works with Titanium rods to prevent bending - lol

The funny thing is that so many technology journalists were predicting Apple was working on some kind of nigh indestructible, sapphire screen phone, not a thin aluminum one.

I doubt this is widespread, though. Apple always seems to come out relatively unscathed or significantly worse for the wear once they resolve the issues, anyway. Their reputation never seems to take a hit long term - fans have a short memory when it comes to buying the next iProduct. Nevermind that LG, HTC, and Nokia can put out equally impressive or even better designs than Apple.

He only did that because of reports of people's iPhones bending from front pockets.

So he read how people were saying "hay, my iPhone was in my front pocket and it bent!" and naturally to attempt to prove this he used his hands to try bend an iphone with all his might. Makes sense....

Call me crazy, but I think a more valid test would have been, I dunno for him to put on some jeans & put an iPhone in the front pocket and sit down and see what happens? And assuming nothing happened he could have gathered up a few of his friends to try the same thing to see the results. At the very least he could have gotten a strong person to do the bending, because he looks like he's about to have a hernia from struggling to make it bend.

There's a thread on macrumors if your desperate to see iPhones that have been bent in people's pockets.

This is what happens when you use poor quality aluminum.

I'm a mechanical engineer and high quality aluminum that thick should NOT bend that easily.

So it's been confirmed,

iPhone 6 = poor quality aluminum.

I do think many blow every Apple thing out of proportion, but there also seem the opposite who can't take any criticism of Apple.

I'm curious how this plays out over time. There aren't that many 6 Pluses out there and they've only been around for days. Will this become more prevalent over time after repeated stress?

I'd say the Note series has been out long enough that if there was a bending or breakage issue, it would have been clear by now. In a few weeks this will have died away or it'll be clear if it is an issue.

Only one thing is clear - it's a smartphone and should be able to be carried in your pockets. Some other forums are saying the Plus should only be carried in a jacket or murse. Seriously?
