This just isn't right

I can not even believe this! When my husband and were younger I was out of work and he had hurt himself at work and was out on compensation. We were already warned that he would not recieve his first comp check for about 8 weeks, so I went to social services, I honestly didn't want to but I really had no choice. Since my husband had recieved a partial paycheck for 175.00 we were only entitled to $30.00, and they wanted me to do workfare for it!! Now I am not proud of the fact I ever went there but it's just another example of how people that do work and fall on hardtimes always get screwed!

Get screwed by whom? We are all responsible for our own destiny. I have had to pick up and rebuild my life numerous times and did it all on my own. I have no pity for anyone who claims to "have" to rely on the government to feed their family. I guess it is just called pride and determination, something most Americans lack.

That's right America, and you paid for it! I'd like to hear the judge's excuse as to why he gave this woman a smack on the hand.

I have seen people who live in $300,000 homes, drive $20,000 cars, and are on welfare....pisses me off

I live near Smiths Falls one of the biggest welfare capitals of canada....It is full of ppl who live off welfare, I also have 5 neighbours who just sit around all day and do absolutely nothing...

This is sickening...People like that should be forced to work atleast a few hours per week...required..

My opinion.

The thing is, there are people that need welfare. So, we can punish everyone on welfare by denying it, or help the people that need helping. It's the whole "better that 10 guilty men go free than one innocent man go to prison" thing. We have to accept the fact that people are going to abuse the system even while deserving people benefit.

Your link is just a blurb about her collecting over $82K and getting no prison time, what's the background of the story? Are you saying this woman is getting "screwed"?

I agree, it isn't right. At a minimum, she should have to repay the entire $80+k she took.

Let's replay this one, folks. She took money wasn't entitled to. She said she took it, agreeing that it was wrong. And she gets to keep it?

NO!!! I can't understand why she doesnt have to pay it all back! I was talking about what I went through when I needed it.....

I have had to pick up and rebuild my life numerous times and did it all on my own. I have no pity for anyone who claims to "have" to rely on the government to feed their family

Good for you! I don't recall ever stating I had to rely on them to feed my family, I am not talking about living on it, I was talking about an 8 week timespan, 10 years ago.

Another problem most American's dont understand is the concept of "Savings" or emergency fund.
One should always have at least 10K chilling in case of emergency.

I always hate it when ppl steal money from wellfare...

20% because it's tax-payers money that's not going to ppl who need it.
80% because it gives ammo to ppl who say that wellfare shouldn't exist (It's their own fault etc)
