And there went my second 360.

What TV did you end up getting?

Vizio GV42LF - 42" 1080p....and it looks absolutely brilliant.

get back a falcon ftw?

If there is a way to tell from the info sticker on the back, I'll gladly let you guys know what I get. That'd be sweet, especially since I'm sure that I'm sending mine in after the initial rush after the new warranty announcement. I'm looking forward to hopefully getting back a completely quieter system like the other guy here posted about a week or two ago.

Actually, now that I think about it, my brother sent his 360 off to repair last week (3 rings on his, obviously), so we'll see what he gets back in a week or two. He said he called for service on the 3rd, got the box in the mail on the 9th, sent it back out on the 18th, and they received it on the 16th. Hopefully he'll have it sent back pretty soon and get it back by the end of the week. Although he's lucky in that he works at a rent-to-own type place, and he's just been borrowing one of their units on the house for the past couple of weeks.

Ah, not a bad TV. I have basically the same exact TV, but got it before it was 1080P from costco. 720P has been good enough so far :) There's 2 year warranty anyways so I'm hoping if it ever fails they'll have no more identical units and upgrade me

Look into a PS3 maybe?

Eh, if Microsoft called me and said they were sorry about my unit dying, and that they would give me a choice of sending back another 360 or a free PS3, I'd still choose the 360 :p.

Dude, take the PS3, sell it and buy a new HDMI 360 or an Elite and some games.

tbh, mostly none of them knew what they were getting themselves into. its microsofts fault that they have to put up with it. its either that or lose out on thier 300+ bucks and give up.

Because the games are fun. Look at blurredvision - even after 2 failed consoles he would still rather have another 360 (knowing that they're still defective) than a PS3. It's all about the games.

I knew what I was getting into when I bought a 360 - the failures had been known about for a long time. I just protected myself by buying mine at Costco. In the end, I decided that the inconvenience of a 20 minute trip to Costco if it broke was better than waiting months for a more reliable console.

Watching this 360 saga, I feel like I'm watching a drug and alcohol-induced party. It looks fun as hell but I'm worried about the consequences if I join.

Don't worry, it's in rehab.

Yeah, in spite of all it's design problems, I would still go with the 360. The reason I play consoles is not to watch movies/play music, it's for games. Sure, those are extra bonuses but they can't replace a great game that you keep coming back to play. Perhaps once Killzone 2 and Ratchet and Clank come out I'll think of getting a PS3, for now I'm on the 360.

Well, my 2nd 360 just RRoD this morning. Put in the original xbox title Destroy all humans yesterday, it had an update so I did it, then played a couple hrs. Try to turn it on this morning and RRoD, TS=no go, it bricked alright. No indications leading up to the failure, and the next one better have a DVD drive as quite as this one. Manu date is 05/03/06 but I have only had it 5-6 months since it was the refurb replacement for my 1st one. Played the stranglehold and Bioshock demos yesterday too, before DAH. *goes off looking for good used price on God Of War 2*

EDIT: FYI- The online system would not except the refurb's SN# so I had to call it in.

Mine's been freezing like crazy on some games, I'm thinking about trying to phone it in, but I'm afraid I won't have it for Halo 3.

The original 360 design is like that Twilight Zone episode with the bookworm after WWIII -- a library full of books and his glasse are broken.

Hopefully 65nm Falcon really does help with the redring and the freezing and the flaaavin :)

Have there been any reports on the reliability of Zephyr? Personally I've heard no cases of RROD in an Elite yet, but then again they are newer and have a smaller market share.

I haven't seen anything, but it is a bit soon.

I worry that the epoxy they added to Zephyr motherboards may just delay RRoD for a few extra months rather than really fixing it.

I'm waiting for Mass Effect to get a 360, so hopefully Falcon 360s will be easy to find by then.

Well they're supposed to be on boats now, but that trip takes 6 weeks. Depending on how many consoles Halo 3 moves you might have a shot at one by the end of November (I'm guessing Mass Effect will come at the end, although it could come earlier).

Their have been some dead Elites, and there have even been some dead models with the second heatsink (refurbs though). Unfortunately the error is too general to know if the same thing is still happening.

Well if the Zephyr design at least significantly reduces RRODs, then Falcon should have a shot of bringing them within acceptable levels.

blurred I'd be pissed if it took that long to get a box. I paid for an extra warranty and they better overnight that damn box.

Did you read the warranty that you bought? You'll probably be disappointed if (when) your Xbox dies.

Reading it really has nothing to do with it because it doesn't say anything about a time frame for receiving the box. (unless I am missing something, my eyes are tired) But I wouldn't leave them alone till they shipped it faster than that.

And they actually shipped a box overnight to repair a regular xbox back around last christmas when I asked them to.
